Hwa-Jae
Name: Seuta Hwa-JaeAge: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Human/Elemi Hybrid
Homeworld: Earth
Starting Planet: Earth
Appearance:
Hwa-Jae appears to be a young human woman standing at five-feet and seven inches tall with a lean, athletic build as befitting a martial artist. She has long brilliant red hair that trails down her back. Her blue eyes are often filled with mirth and wonder, always darting about when faced with something new or exciting. Her fresh face always holds a smile on her lips. She speaks with a voice clear and youthful, often seeming eager to laugh at the joys of the world.
Her attire consists of a scarlet cheongsam specifically tailored to be used for martial arts along with red pants and plain, yet sturdy brown leather boots. Along with yellow trim and the symbol of Hwa-Jae’s temple, the Kasai Order, stitched over the heart, she provides the image of one of the reclusive Kasai Guardians. Her hands are clad in bright teal gloves to denote that she is still an acolyte. For more casual wear, Hwa-Jae bounces between comfortable clothes like loose blouses and jeans, to more fashionable skirts and dresses.
Backstory:
Hwa-Jae was born to a woodcutter and his wife in a small cottage in the forests surrounding the Fire Mountain area. A happy child, Hwa-Jae showed to be a youngster of nearly limitless energy. Her parents loved her as if she were the greatest treasure on Earth. Her time with her family, while short, was filled with joy and warmth.
However, as most tales such as these are destined to be, life would be shattered by an unknown spark. The cottage Hwa-Jae lived in became consumed in flames, taking the lives of both her parents. Left in the smouldering cinders of her home, the young child was found by her new benefactor.
Old Master Fuega, Master of the Kasai Order, found the young Hwa-Jae crying amongst the ashes of her home. Taking the child in with her to her Temple, Fuega raised Hwa-Jae to be one of the Kasai’s acolytes. She found the near boundless energy of the girl to be a boon, as she took to the lessons of the Kasai Hato Katachi, or Fire Heart Style, with complete focus and skill.
Hwa-Jae lived happily in the Temple, learning of ki from Old Master Fuega, studying martial arts from Fuega’s second-in-command, Elder Sister Pyya, and forming a bond with her best friend Cineza. As time passed, Hwa-Jae grew into the fighter she is now, eager to take the trials to become a full fledged Kasai Guardian, protector of Earth and the Sacred Flame.
As she awaits the summons for her trials, Hwa-Jae always recalls the promise made to her by her Old Master Fuega that once she became a Kasai Guardian the Master would tell her who was behind the fiery deaths of her parents. She eagerly awaited the day where she finds answers to her very existence.

Hwa-Jae stood on her mound and stared down the length of the field towards her opponent. Her breath shortened. A tightness stretched throughout her muscles as she waited. Her eyes narrowed. It all came down to this one moment, the one moment that would be the game changer. All of her Sisters were counting on her to make this one move. She took a deep breath. No pressure, right?
As Cineza made her way to her position, Hwa-Jae began to form a ball of orange ki in her right hand. She squeezed down on the orb of volatile energy as Cineza raised her hands, now poised for combat. No matter how many times they faced off against each other, Hwa-Jae could never anticipate her opponent’s motions. Cineza moved so erratically, like the wildfire she was. If Hwa-Jae wanted victory, she needed to show all of her mettle here and now.
Cineza clenched her fists and entered a combat stance. The other Sister stood ready to react upon a moment’s notice. As the tension began to mount, Hwa-Jae ignited the ki orb in her hand, creating a flaming sphere known to the Sisters as the Hinotama, the first of the Three Basics. It was the first technique Hwa-Jae showed any aptitude for, and for this particular training exercise, it was that skill with the hinotama that would see her through the day.
Behind Cineza, one of the other sisters, Sister Smoulde, squatted behind Old Master Fuega’s star student covered in heavy flame resistant armour. She lowered her hand and pointed three fingers to the ground. Hwa-Jae saw this and shook her head. That was not the move she would use against Cineza. Two fingers. This time Hwa-Jae nodded. Nothing complex, nothing fancy, just straightforward and direct. She wanted to test her speed and strength and anything more complicated than a straight line would corrupt her experiment.
“Hurry it up, already,” Cineza called out. She brushed her three blonde ponytails out of the way. “I haven’t got all day.”
Hwa-Jae narrowed her eyes once more, taking aim right at Smoulde rather than Cineza. She then raised her leg to the air and with a twisting motion of her body, threw the hinotama right towards the pair. With all of the torque and momentum she could muster, she watched with pride as the hinotama soared through the air as fast as a bullet.
Despite the speed Hwa-Jae put into her attack, Cineza managed a confident smirk as the burning ball neared her. Cineza turned her entire body around, swinging her backhand like it was a wrecking ball. The back of her fist collided with the hinotama, sending the fireball careening into the sky. The moment it went airborne, Cineza began to run the bases, although she did not use her ki-powered swiftness, but rather jogged around the diamond at a pleasurable gait.
As the fireball ripped through the air, Hwa-Jae looked around to see if any of her sisters could catch it before it exploded. She knew it was futile for anyone to chase after it, but a part of her knew she had to at least try. Pushing off the pitcher’s mound with all the strength her ki could muster, Hwa-Jae took to the skies like a rocket. An orange aura surrounded her as she hurtled to the sky, still somehow able to keep an eye on the fireball. She would not allow Cineza to saunter around the diamond while she still drew breath.
As the sky and clouds ripped by her, Hwa-Jae finally managed to make it to her own hinotama. Covering her hand in a membrane of ki so she could handle the orb without having it detonate. With the fireball in her hand, Hwa-Jae made a complete one-eighty turn in the air and began her rapid descent back to the surface. She could still see Cineza making her run, her boots touching down on second base. Cineza had not detected her coming back.
With the diamond in sight, Hwa-Jaw began to spin like a top in the air. With every spin, she took a moment to keep an eye on Smoulde. Cineza would make it to home plate soon enough, so the only chance Hwa-Jae had was to throw it to her younger Sister. Thanks to her own brand of centrifugal force and a little help from gravity, Hwa-Jae threw the hinotama towards Smoulde.
Cineza finally looked up and saw the fireball zipping downward towards the home plate catcher. Deciding that she needed to get serious now, Cineza burst to life and ran towards home plate with speed unbelievable. She disappeared like a blur, but her swiftness and the hinotama were evenly matched.
Just as Cineza was about to touch home and the fireball was about to make it to Smoulde’s waiting hands, the fireball detonated in a violent explosion of heat and light. Hwa-Jae shielded her eyes from the blast.
“Darn it!” she shouted, her voice lost over the roar of the explosion. “I was so close too!”
Yet a gust of wind blew away the smoke and fire as a broom would sweep away the dust. Cineza rubbed the back of her head as she lay on her backside, her uniform covered in soot. Smoulde appeared utterly stunned as she lay on her back. Much to Hwa-Jae’s chagrin though, a third figure stood tall in the middle of the dissipating dust cloud.
Standing six feet and seven inches tall, the spiky haired blonde woman known as Elder Sister Pyya glared daggers at Hwa-Jae, her large muscular arms crossed over her chest. Hwa-Jae floated down to the ground as the rest of the Sisters fled in every direction. Hwa-Jae looked up into Pyya’s dark eyes and tried to summon her best smile.
“Elder Sister Pyya,” Hwa-Jae said with a nervous chuckle. “We weren’t expecting you. Care to join in our game of fire baseball?”
Pyya did not cease her accusing glare. “This is how you use our sacred techniques? With these crass games? Where is the discipline I have instilled in both of you!”
“That is quite enough, Elder Sister. They are but young people. Let them have their games today. For tomorrow there may be strife and struggle.”
Hwa-Jae bowed to Old Master Fuega as her sandals and cane clicked on the ground. Joined by Cineza and Smoulde, all three said in unison to the elderly mentor, “Good afternoon, Old Master.”
Fuega smiled at the three with her wrinkled lips. “Good afternoon, my children. I hope you have been enjoying this beautiful weather we’ve been having. I have some important news for you two, Hwa-Jae, Cineza. Sister Smoulde, will you please go to the temple kitchens and help Sister Kilna with her work?”
Smoulde bowed to Fuega and took off towards the kitchens. The Master of the Kasai Order then turned around and headed towards the main Temple building. “Come then, my students. Elder Sister Pyya. We have much to discuss.”
Cineza shrugged at Hwa-Jae and followed Fuega towards the Temple. As they walked, all Hwa-Jae could think about was what Fuega called them for. Was it something to do with the Guardian trials? Or was it something else?
