Believe in yourself Rumia, never forget to believe in what your heart says is right, even if your mind says it's stupid... never forget... because that's the truth
The words of her mentor rung in her, just as clear as so many years ago. Their were no true constants in the Western Kaioshin's life. Everything she came in contact with would eventually die. It just never failed. The grass died and water dulled. Her mentor died and so did North. Even Dawn, pure loving Dawn.... every last one and every last thing disappeared sooner or later. Every day Rumia put on a happy face. Every day she did her best not to sink into negativity, and most of the time it was so good she didn't even notice!
But then.... then North was cut down in front of her eyes. By those stupid residents of Makai! He was supposed to be back by now, halo or no! He was SUPPOSED to be criticising her immaturity And telling her to focus on her quadrant right now damit! He was supposed to be anything.... anything but silent! Everyone... everything went away eventually, North not appearing just reminded her of that.
This was the third time someone died instead of her. Third time someone didn't come back to. Kai's had long lives, most probably expected time gaps between these deaths to be practically laughable! Really when your life was nearly eternal why worry over a few deaths along the way yeah? No... she just couldn't. Her mentor died when they quelled a rare disaster in what was now her quadrant of the universe. Everyone was so sure that she'd be back in no time with a halo and jokes! But no... Rumia knew better. The technique her mentor used completely exhausted her spirit... their was nothing TO come back.
Dawn was much the same. They spent a long time together actually. Dawn was the first being she ever brought back to the planet, with good reason! The girl died in her quadrant. She was a great hero-a beautiful and genuine soul blue as ocean water. She gave her the technique not for what it was used for, but simply to give her a bit more fire power! One stupid dam bubblegum creature changed all that! Rumia almost repeated the errors of those that came before her. In fact she'd probably still be in that gooey creature if not for Dawn. They had one hundred magical years. Years thrown away in one single flash.
And now good old grumpy North... he probably wasn't coming back ether, they never did. Just another speck gone to the winds of time. Just another spirit for her to mourn. Kagari and Crys.... she didn't want them to share the fates of everyone else she grew to care about. It was in addition to Kagari's blood among the reasons she was so hesitant to get serious about their training. More than anything she didn't want to teach them THAT technique, the technique of sacrifice. The one that ruined the lives and caused her enough tears for any mortal lifetime.
'ATA' 'Ash To Ash' could she teach them proper without teaching them the full extent of the skills passed down to her? They could die with that technique and without it. With it they had a choice but without They might not even be strong enough TO choose. The choice of what to do is what brought her before the self made graves of those she lost, as if she could ask them the answer. The two had been through enough without her giving them a way to erase themselves completely. This was just silly... they could be strong without it, they were a strong willed duo, they didn't need to draw on their life force to be a force, Kagari most of all. Their fates and what would happen to them none the less weighed heavily on her mind. The guardianship was a needed evil she knew, but one that none the less brought up some bad memories now that she was alone.
Nothing lasted forever, Rumia knew that better than anyone.
