Recently, another Cbox conversation came up about the organization of rules. It was suggested that the rules need reoganization. Before this was said, I'd been working on and off on this for the past few weeks, after a few people I've tried to recruti offsite have complained about the rules and their organization. Since it recently came up in the cbox, I've decided to just go ahead and post what I've got so far.
I'd also like to preface this thread by saying I greatly appreciate all the hard work staff puts in and this is not meant to be a 'my ideas are better' type of thread, simply suggestions.
Section I: An Index
As Melonia and Corn posted in the cbox, an index of rules would be a good idea. I've compiled one below that does not account for my suggestions regarding the consolidation of certain topics:
The Big List of Rules
1. General Site Rules - Need to know the laws of the land? Check here for rules governing rules regarding behavior and general roleplaying!
2. Fighting Mechanics - Are you ready to rumble? Check here for the rules regarding combat on the site!
3. Technique Mechanics - Show me your moves! Check here for all the information regarding the site's technique system!
4. Martial Arts and Fighting Style- Everybody was kung-fu fighting! Check her for rules on learning fighting styles and information regarding melee finesse!
5. Destorying and Conquering Rules - Ready to show your strength? Check here regarding rules for Risk of Death/Saga threads and the process of destroying or conquering a planet!
6. After-life Rules - Get vaporized? Check here for rules what to do if you die, and information for if you're one of the lucky ones to receive training from someone in the Afterlife!
7. Special Positions - I just can't wait to be king! Check here for rules regarding what to do if you want to claim one of the site's special positions, or check out their perks!
8. Dragon Ball Rules - Make a wish! Check here for rules regarding the magical Dragon Balls, including how to acquire them and how to make a wish!
9. Grading and Expectations - I desire power! Check here for rules regarding grading and gains, and what it is expected of you as you roleplay!
As you can see, I have attempted to organize all the main rules in a logical order as well as provide a brief snippet as to what they are about, so that people can find what they're looking for quickly.
Section II: Suggestions Regarding the Rules Themselves
I'll make no suggestions on changing rules here or rules to add. No, this is simply about how I feel the organization and presentation of rules can be presented in each thread. I might also suggest that some threads be condensed. I've broken all my suggestions down into categories based on the threads they concern.
1. Site Rules
No real suggestions here. This topic does what it sets out to fulfill.
2. Fighting Mechanics
I've only a few suggestions here, though this topic will come up again in a later section. My main suggestions are: adding statements that certain things are only pertinent in RoDs, such as vaporizing and absorbing.
Also, I believe that the section of gravity training would be better off as part of the thread "Grading and Expectations". It should also be pointed out that these two threads contradict each other on when Gravity become useless to a player. So, I suggest the rules there be sorted and Gravity removed from Fighting Mechanics.
3. Technique Mechanics
Some of the information here is redundant. Beam struggling is already mentioned in Fighting Mechanics, and, in my opinion, better explained there. Also, I believe that charging is also more relevant to Fighting Mechanics and would be a better fit there. Beyond that, I feel the thread is fine as is.
4. Martial Arts and Fighting Style
First, I believe the section on Melee Finesse would be better off in the Fighting Mechanics thread, as it is mentioned there and pertinent to fighting. On Blocking and Dodging, some of this information is covered in Technique Mechanics, and since this part of the thread discusses mainly techniques, I feel that this would be better off in the techniques mechanics threads.
I also personally feel that it would be best to condense the remainder of the thread with the Martial Arts Schools thread, in the interest of making information more condensed and accessible.
5. Destroying and Conquering Rules-
I suggest that the title be changed to also include mention of RoDs, such as "Risk of Death, Conquering, and Destruction Rules". I would also begin the thread with a description of RoD/Saga threads. A description can be found later in the thread, but under the section of destroying. I feel this deserves its own section.
6. After-life Rules:
No real suggestions here.
7. Special Positions
No real commentary here. I'd suggest a link to the Destroying/Conquering rules in this thread, so players can understand what their claim brings them into.
8. Dragon Ball Rules
The Thread mentions rolling, but not in what context. I feel it should be explained as "To acquire Dragon Balls, one must first purchase a Dragon Radar in the mall. Only then are you allowed to scan daily for Dragon Balls in the scanning thread. Beware, the Dragon Radar costs 6000 zeni, and each roll costs 100 zeni. The scanning thread can be found in Ingauna Street Mall."
9. Grading and Expectations
It is common, but hidden, knowledge that there is a limit of five solos per week, as well as cap of 10,000 words. However, neither Threads to Grade, nor Grading and Expectation mention this. I believe it should be added to one of them, as to make it clear and easily available. I already mentioned the issue of gravity.
I would also add a small section that discusses some races having racial bonuses, such as the Kold Demons or Anubians, and that one should refer to their race page for more information.
These are all the suggestions I have for now. Please, if you have any thoughts, feel free to comment below.
