Sirens and horns filled the air of South City with a thick sense of urgency, Earthlings scrambled to clear the roads and walkways as several police cruisers and fire trucks sped through the little intersection Piyano had found himself walking upon this day as he had been in search of a martial arts school said to be in the area. The vehicles traveled by in a flash, screeching sirens telling people for miles to clear a path for the emergency vehicles or else risk being flattened beneath the mighty machines wheels. Standing off to the side of a street corner as the quick event played out before him Piyano wondered briefly what event had spurred the city officials into such action? The Namekian had his answer as several nearby humans commented on events taking place within the eastern confines of South City at this very moment. Curious Piyano edged himself closer to the quartet of humans that stood huddled around a television.
"Breaking News on events happening in South City this morning. The armed robbery that began at Capsule Savings this morning has devolved into a full on hostage situation as police forces surrounded the savings and loan office quickly after the robbery had began. Police have confirmed there to be four assailants armed with new blaster technology, and suspect there to be six hostages held within the bank at this time. Police forces are still trying to negotiate the situation into a peaceful ending as Earth Special Forces assistance will be delayed for several hours due to events taking place in the Western Continent at this time. We here at channel 408 News will continue to provide updates on this story as it unfolds."
Watching the news report from a tv positioned out side of a local convince mart over the heads of the huddled humans Piyano frowned as the broadcast showed several photos of the scene. Black smoke filled the street outside the bank and several small craters lined the pavement, the blaster armed criminals had been firing out into the road to keep police away from the building. The sights and story disgusted Piyano, to witness men who would cause harm to others for something as petty as zeni. Criminal activity upon Namek was rare, but not unheard of with the revival of the planets demon clan. When criminals rose up on Namek however it became the responsibility of every combat trained Namekian to put a quick end to any violence. Piyano knew that Earth worked differently, policemen, security guards, and elected officals were supposed to be the ones on this planet that prevented such scenes as Piyano had just been shown from happening. If this channel 408 news could be believed however than it seemed to Piyano that this time local authorities lacked the means to handle things, and more powerful law enforcement would not be on scene for some time.
Piyano's inherent desires to offer aid won out in the end as the green alien struggled to decide if he should offer assistance or not. The Namekian knew that he had to help in some fashion, but Piyano had also learned that on this planet it was illegal to interfere with police business. The only people who ever seemed to get away with it were crazy people that dressed up in masks or capes... "Oh Kami no... that's what I have to do isn't it?" Piyano said aloud with a groan sounding soon after. The Namekian's voice startled the humans crowded before him, they had been unaware of the alien peeking over their heads. Ignoring the excitable humans Piyano quickly scanned the street until his eyes fell upon a clothing shop across the way by the street corner.
Rushing over to the store Piyano used his heightened speed to quick step throughout the small shop. In a matter of seconds several pieces of clothes had been taken, and a small pile of zeni had been dropped upon the stores counter without anyone inside having seen a thing. Quick stepping outside and into a nearby alley Piyano went through the clothing he had snagged, the Namekian didn't wish to reveal himself when he went to help at the savings and loan. First Piyano didn't wish for any entanglements with Earth's law enforcement agencies, secondly the man just didn't want anyone to know it was him. Life on Earth was proving comfortable for the Namekian, but suddenly becoming recognizable to anyone who watched the news this day could swiftly change the aliens quiet life style.
Neither intending to keep the clothes, nor ditch his own weighted vestments. Piyano dressed over his current set of clothing, resulting in a large brown trench coat covering his torso, arms, and descending down past his knees. Next the alien wrapped a white scarf around his lower neck and jaw, doing the best he could to cover his green skin. A pair of mirrored sunglasses and a blue trilby hat covered the Namekian's antennae and remaining face. Lastly Piyano tucked his clawed hands into a pair of fuzzy pink mittens, the only thing he could find in the store to cover his hands.
Sure that he must look a ridiculous mess, but that his true features were covered. Piyano took to the skies and flew off into the eastern reaches of South City. Still not a master of the Southern Isles Piyano could have easily gotten lost, luckily the bank robbery was being covered by the news. No less than three hovercopters soared over the scene hoping to catch something exciting on film. Observing the scene from the air Piyano saw that the smoke had become thicker and that a police cruiser had caught fire. Even now blaster fire was being loosened from the structures windows as the criminals within fired randomly into the street.
Knowing that he would need to take things strategically to avoid harm to any hostages Piyano looked for a good way into the building first. Scanning the facility from the air Piyano was lucky enough to notice a door on the roof open up as a man with a blaster kicked the barrier open from inside. The criminal was a large man who looked taller and thicker across than Piyano himself. With flowing brown hair and a black muscle shirt the man shoved a human woman out onto the roof before stepping into the open himself. The criminal shoved the woman along, seemingly aiming to bring the woman to the edge of the building. Was he planing to throw her off the roof? Not willing to find out Piyano crossed his arms in a X pattern before his face and dived head first out of the air, the alien's sudden updraft was enough to make one of the gathered hovercopters sway in his wake.
Below Piyano could hear the woman scream as her kidnapper slowly forced her to the edge of the building. Her feet skidding to a rough stop at the percipience the woman quaked in fear as she waited for the expected shove that would send her tumbling over. The shove never came... FFFWWAAPP "UUgha!" came a noise and grunt from behind the woman, who shakily opened her eyes and turned to see her kidnapper crumpled upon the floor, his eyes glossed over in a unhealthy fashion. Piyano's crossed drop had struck the man between his shoulder blades, the Namekian's hard fall doing great damage and crushing the criminal beneath his weight. The villain would survive however as Piyano had slowed his descent at the last second, having no intent on taking a life. "Stay here and stay hidden." Piyano said to the woman when she finally became aware of the strangely dressed man. Bending down to retrieve the humans blaster, Piyano snapped the weapon in half before making his way to the stairwell which lead below.
The inside of the bank was clean and respectable as Piyano moved through the stairwell, luckily finding no guards or traps. Perhaps these criminals were very unskilled? Just a group of men who had acquired weapons more powerful than they should rightfully possess. In the end it didn't matter to the alien, he just wished to stop this without anyone getting killed. Coming to the ground floor of the stairwell Piyano reached a door. Deciding it would be best to learn the landscape before simply busting in the Namekian slowly applied pressure until the door opened up just a crack. Beyond the door was a large reception area, complete with desks for the buildings workers, a wide carpeted floor and several couches for lunging or awaiting service. Peeking off to the left and right Piyano could just barely make out a large metal door. Having no words to describe the massive barrier Piyano could only assume it was where the humans stored their zeni for safety.
Paying the door no mind Piyano continued his search, after a time the alien spotted the remaining five hostages, all of them bound at the wrists and huddled down on the floor next to the couches of the lounge area. Next Piyano focused on finding the hostage takers. Two men stood by separate windows, one trigger happily firing blast after blast outside beyond Piyano's sight. The second man was calmly smoking and keeping his eye on the hostages, this was the man Piyano needed to take down first. Standing literally as far away from the door Piyano hid behind as the confines of the building would allow Piyano decided not to risk rushing the human. Chances were too high Piyano wouldn't knock the goon out before he shot a hostage.
If Piyano couldn't make it to the human, than Piyano decided it was best for him to make the human come to him. Focusing his thoughts on the human Piyano tried to establish a psychic link with the man. Telepathy at Piyano's level normally only worked among willing individuals, but Piyano didn't need to hear the human's thoughts. No the Namekian only needed to plant a few words in the humans mind.
"What happened to the other guy.... he's been gone so long.... I should check on him." Piyano imparted into the humans mind softly and slowly. Piyano knew if he did it right the human would believe the thoughts to be his own.
Peeking through the small crack in the door Piyano watched and waited as the smoking human looked around concerned for a moment. Until finally he tossed his cigarette onto the floor and crushed it beneath his heel as he walked Piyano's way. Backing away from the door Piyano put his back to the corner of the stairwell just before the first step up and waited. After several seconds the door slammed open and Piyano struck! Launching a blind chop Piyano struck the kidnapper/robber right in the throat. The human dropped to his knees clutching his neck as he struggled to breath, Piyano didn't give the man a chance to recover however as he kicked the criminal in the side of his rib cage. Feeling something break with the force of his kick Piyano watched as the human dropped unconscious onto the floor.
Pulling the human the rest of the way into the stairwell Piyano checked the mans vitals. After a few seconds Piyano felt the humans pulse, it came very slowly. Chastising himself for being to careless with his strength Piyano placed a hand upon the broken human and channeled healing energy into the man. Piyano was forced to concentrate, to heal the man enough to reverse his injuries but not free him from the realm of unconsciousness. Because of the precision needed several minutes had gone by before Piyano was completed with his self imposed task.
When things were finished Piyano once again peeked through the door, he was dismayed to learn the trigger happy human had stopped firing and seemed to be searching the reception room for his missing companion. This man was much closer to Piyano however and his back was turned, deciding to risk it Piyano kicked the stairwell door off its hinges and rushed at the human. The loud clatter of the door breaking free drew the criminal to turn Piyano's way, and he began firing the moment he saw Piyano's heavily covered body. Yellow bolts of power lanced Piyano's way forcing the concealed Namekian to dive into a roll underneath several blasts. Piyano could hear the small explosions behind him as the blasters bolts struck walls and desks, burning everything it touched into debris.
Coming out of his roll still twelve feet from the man Piyano dived to his left as more blasts scorched the floor where he had been standing a moment ago, than the Namekian charged forward again. Each dive Piyano had taken was to the left, forcing the gunmen to fire away from the bound hostages on the right. Also with each dive Piyano was gaining ground, the gunmen either too scared or inexperienced to step away while shooting. A final roll brought Piyano right up in front of the man and even as the blaster was being leveled Piyano's direction the masked Namekian leap into the air from his low position to uppercut the mans chin. The human went up before falling back down to lay flat out along the ground, his blaster firing aimlessly off to the side.
When Piyano was sure the human would not get back up he moved over to the bound hostages and began assisting them out of their bindings. One individual however reacted very excitedly at Piyano's approach. "No wait there is one more of them in the vault!" the said only making Piyano grow confused. "Vault? Whats a vaul-" the Namekian began until a fiery pain lanced through his back. Collapsing upon the floor Piyano rolled himself onto his side to witness a forth kidnapper walk out of the 'vault'. The newcomer wasn't very tall or muscular, in fact they appeared to be a human in their early twenties. Half their body was ebony skinned and very human, but seemingly down the middle the rest of their body was a steel chaise, their right arm ending in a many barreled blaster.
"Now I don't know who you think you are with your fine blue hat and all. Coming in here and attacking 'MY' men. All I know is that your not going to live past the next few seconds." the android said mockingly as it levied its right arm Piyano's way and began to rotate fiercely. Piyano forced himself into a roll as sparkling green bolts drilled into the floor, easily piercing any resist they connected with. Barely managing to dodge aside Piyano kept his roll going as he tried to clear distance between himself and this new threat.
Blaster fire continued to chase after the Namekian, and injured as he was Piyano could do very little other than to keep rolling and wait until his races regenerative abilities healed him back up to fighting strength. That was the alien's plan anyway until he collided with a desk, he had ended up back towards the stairwell entrance again. Suddenly unable to move Piyano felt another bolt drill through his leg. Pain exploded throughout Piyano's mind as he felt a piece of his flesh burn away.
"Tell you what little blue hat, I'll count to five. Give you a chance to run before I come and kill you." The android said calmly walking forward, the machine man stopped in the very center of the room, a mocking grin lining half of his face. "One!..."
Grunting in anguish Piyano used the desk to pull himself to his feet. The Namekian didn't want to leave the hostages, but the android seemed entirely focused upon himself. With no better options Piyano limped heavily towards the stairwell. "Two!..." Passing through the broken door of the stairwell Piyano began climbing the steps, luckily he was gaining more speed as his special physiology began to repair his injuries. "Three!... Four!... FIVE!!! Here I come BLUE HAT!" the android shouted as he began walking forward again. the Gatling blaster began its rotation as the machine entered after Piyano, ready to fire at any moment. Except the blue hatted stranger wasn't there.
Angrily the android rushed up the steps to the roof, using its blaster to burn the upper door out of its way. Standing in the threshold of the doorway to the roof the android saw nothing but a very frightened woman sitting near the edge of the building. "Where did he go?" the android asked aloud even as Piyano swung down from above, the Namekian had been standing on top of the roof access ceiling; waiting for the android to catch up. Swinging feet first Piyano collided with the metal man hard! Sending them both spiraling down the stairwell in a jumbled heap. Every collision with a surface hurt, but at this close range Piyano had robbed the android of his greatest weapon. It's blaster. A punch took Piyano in the cheek as they fell, Piyano's knee struck the machines stomach and groin with several blows.
By the time the pair hit the ground floor each one had taken a fair helping of damage. Piyano bled badly beneath his clothes, several of which had began to tear or peel away, revealing his green flesh. Meanwhile the android bore cuts and bruises along its flesh half, and its metal side was dented and scraped. Collapsing finally upon the floor it was by pure luck that Piyano landed on top. Using his momentum and position to his advantage the Namekian rained blow after blow to the androids head. Each strike further denting steel until final the metal was rend beneath his furious assault. Sparks shot from the androids exposed skull plate before a sound of something winding down filled the stairwell.
Power left the machine side of Piyano's foe, who was even now reaching vainly for Piyano's throat to try and suffocate the alien with only his human hand. The machine half of the android wouldn't budge however and the human half didn't have the strength to get off the floor with one hand alone. Stumbling back out into the reception room with haggard breaths Piyano left the android to shout and struggle in his anger, knowing the man would not be getting up again. Soon after Piyano freed the hostages from their bindings and the six humans ran out the front door with their hands above their heads.
Police rushed the building once the hostages were clear of danger, but other than the four unconscious robbers and a scared woman on the roof they found nothing more than battle damage and a set of clothes with price tags still attached to them. A purple stained blue hat was their only clue as to the hero that had saved the day.
End.
