They'd been flying for nearly hours since they departed from the Cold North, and had it not been for the troubling Mayor of Penguin Village to send them to West City Suusao probably wouldn't be as flustered as he was. On the bright side they had been given a car capable of flight from the Mayor, and found out he'd made exclusive visits to West City from time to time. Kinko was highly disappointed that such acts were performed by a political figure, and Suusao well he hadn't the slightest interest in the Mayor's personal life. The boy was more focused on their job they'd been given in regards to an investigation for a Laboratory, known as the ExGen Foundation. Kinko had done her own homework on the company just in regards to what type of research they performed, and discovered their most recent breakthrough was a new anti-itch cream. With a name like ExGen you would expect bigger projects to be worked on not so much as itch cream though.
Moments later the duo touched down in West City in front of the entrance of ExGen's Largest Facility. Kinko stepped out of the vehicle while Suusao remained asleep which was his way of staying out of the girl's way, and allowing her to do her detective work with little intrusion. Entering the facility the girl was captivated at how high-tech just the lobby was and it reminded her of the Capsule Corporation. She approached the receptionist and was greeted by a woman who was overly cheery, and soon paged someone who was more than likely Kinko's employer for this job. The receptionist came from behind the desk to lead the girl to an elevator, and Kinko was slowly memorizing the facilities layout. Towards the end of their impromptu tour the receptionist may not have noticed, but Kinko surely did, and took note of the tactical missile being assembled. What she found more intriguing was how well they were able to cover their tracks as a weapons development center.
The two females stood before the elevator doors, and took another mental note that they were located on the 6th floor. There was a ding and the two stepped inside and the receptionist pressed the button for the thirteenth floor. The doors stood idle for a few seconds before sliding shut, and they made their way up the elevator shaft. Pulling down her dress a bit she found herself staring at the elevator door. She found herself humming the elevator tune, and right before she got into it the elevator chimed. The two of them exited the elevator proceeding down a long hallway, until approaching two large double doors. The woman went inside first requesting that Kinko wait just a moment, and she nodded in compliance taking out her cell phone calling Suusao.
Outside the facility a phone vibrated on the floor of the car, but Suusao didn't move a muscle under a deep slumber the entire time. Except when he'd wake up from occasionally popping a snot bubble, and snorted the snot right back into his nose repeating the process. Kinko put her phone back away when the doors reopened, and the receptionist invited her inside. "Hello Hello my Dear. Welcome to the ExGen Laboratory. My name is Dexter I was just recently promoted as the CEO of the company. I'm so grateful that you answered my request, now on to business shall we?" The man came from behind his desk to shake Kinko's hand, as they took a seat on a brown leather sofa. He continued on about the true matter for her and Suusao being called, and informed her of a new government contract they'd received. Their most recent production was a prototype blaster, and in hindsight if it were to wind up in the wrong hands it could prove catastrophic. Dexter gave provided the girl a temporary access key, granting her access to the entire ExGen building even the executive wash room.
Kinko choose to begin her investigation within the lab where the theft supposedly occurred. Broken glass was scattered about along with blood stains all over the floor, and unfinished projects in shambles. Her first mind was to start with the blood perhaps collect some samples just like they did on television. That was when she deduced that it would be ineffective, seeing it was obvious both guards and thieves had died in the raid. The second place she decided was to search for the container that held the blaster. As she'd turned around to leave the first scene of evidence she could hear snickering from the local law enforcement, and turned her nose up to the useless professionals. When she found the case it sparked her curiosity that it wasn't altered or damaged like the majority of the lab. Somehow the perpetrator knew the code... Closing back the display glass she took time to gather the clues into a hypothesis. If the thieves knew the code to the case, then they must have someone working on the inside...which means...
Next the girl went back to speak with the CEO Dexter, receiving names of each individual responsible for working on the project. Each of them human with the exception of a Zoanthrope, and she instantly knew this would be a tougher case to crack. She conducted a thorough interrogation of each of the individual suspects, but none seemed to budge except the Zoanthrope. The reason for the Zoanthrope's cooperation was due to the blaster being of her design, and this information correlated with her second interrogation. The second person she interviewed was a middle aged man named Marion, and something he mentioned was that the blaster's design was stolen from him. ""Poetic justice is what it is... With just that bit of information alone she was able to infer that this operation was conducted from within the facility. The thieves down in the lab were nothing but decoys throwing anyone investigating off the real culprit's trail. The plan itself was surely ingenious, but for someone like Kinko she could crack anything.
Returning back to Dexter's office with all the evidence she'd gathered, and presented it with a clear layout. Explaining to him that Marion was the true culprit. She broke down her reasoning for this, and it seemed Dexter finally was able to wrap his head around it. "I know just the thing to do. We must not allow him to escape from the building." Dexter pressed the intercom button, but before he could speak Marion burst through the doors of the office. Kinko turned around watching him armed with the stolen blaster in hand, and he low balled Kinko by using the receptionist as his hostage. Marion knew the entire time that she had caught on to him, and decided to force himself out of his situation. "What is the meaning of this Marion!?" Dexter stood up with a terrified look in his eyes, and looked to Kinko hoping she could resolve this conflict. Kinko froze when the man aimed the blaster at her fearing for her life, and was uncertain what the blaster could do simply at this stage. A loud whirling sound could be heard and the man's shot towards Kinko who jumped out of the way, but he instead was aiming for the wall blowing a hole through it causing a large tremor. Throwing the receptionist to the side he'd made his escape by jumping through the hole in the wall, and fired another shot at Kinko who deflected the blast. This surprised her that she was even capable of doing such thing, and this provided her with yet another piece of evidence.
The force from the blast shook the surrounding area so hard but it wasn't enough to even awake Suusao, and Kinko was rather disappointed she was forced to do this alone. She turned back to Dexter providing him with a new bit of information in regards to his company's stolen product, and reassured that he could count on her to retrieve it. "Don't worry they haven't gotten far, this isn't my first encounter with their organization. They have a hideout in the North in the Tsumisumbri Mountains, but I want to say that your prototype has been long gone sine before the incident." The CEO's face scrunched slightly as he took in the information, his face never changed from a look of pure unsettling rage, but she knew that it was not directed towards her. Even with the look on his face he praised the young girl for her hard work, admitting that he was impressed by her detective skills. The man handed her a card with his number on it, and she handed him the access card he'd given her. To her surprise she was allowed to keep it, and thanked him. "I'll be giving you a call soon, but it is quite unfortunate that your companion was not present. Also speak to Amy the receptionist about your reward, and again job well done Kinko." Dexter turned his back on the girl looking out over the city, and even those his words were kind his frustration could be felt.
Returning to their vehicle it had almost been a full four hours, and she'd found Suusao the exact way she left him...asleep. The girl's brow began to twitch as she gave the boy a whack over the head, and he quickly awoke sobbing in pain. Starting up the car she immediately gave Suusao the third degree for what he'd done. "BAKA!"
