Cryonia Arlumia
Name: Cryonia Arlumia
Name Pun: Cryonia is a play on “cryogenics”, the study of the effects of low temperatures on materials. This is fitting, since Cryonia’s element is Ice.
Age: 35
Gender:Female
Race: Elemi/Bijou hybrid (Elemi Dominant)
Elemental Typing: Ice
Homeworld: Space (was born on a ship)
Starting Planet:Earth
Appearance:
Cryonia has the appearance of a young woman who is 5.2 feet tall, and weighs 101 pounds. She looks like a human, save for two very distinct future. The first is her monochrome hair, which is half black and half white. The second unique feature are her piercing cyan colored eyes. These eyes can glow with varying intensities depending on her mood. The light blue color of her eyes is a result of her ability to affect her inner temperatures, and is now a permanent shade of cyan as a side effect of her abilities. Speaking of her eyes, she has dark circles under them. A side effect of the insomnia afflicting her sleep in recent years.
Cryonia's taste in clothing is unique, if nothing else. She typically likes to wear custom made clothing. Her favorite outfit appears to be some kind of mix between a short dress and a cost, which stops at her waistline. The coat itself is a mix of black and white, with blue stripes that form various patterns on her clothing, including a large X. She wears black stockings and black shoes, which also have blue stripes on them. She also carries a pouch with vials strapped to the side of it, as well as what appears to be a sword hilt without a blade. She usually doesn't wear the armor that her race tends to use. If she's expecting to go into a confrontation, then she dons a white Acrylic suit of armor.
Backstory:
{Cryonia's Birth and Childhood: Ages 1542-1548}
Cryonia's story begins years before she was born. A female Elemi named Hydria and a male Bijou called Turqos meeting. They were both members of the Home Reclamation Effort, an Organization founded by the Elemi to research and explore any possible methods of restoring their currently uninhabitable home world. They traveled the galaxy, searching for anything that would help them in their mission. Along the way, they took the time to help those in need. In 1512, they came across a group of Saiyans who were fleeing their recently destroyed home world. Using their abilities, they helped resupply their ship with water and fuel. Whether or not the Saiyans would have made it to Namek without their help is debatable. Either way, this act of kindness would come back to bite them in the future.
Cryonia's parents eventually fell in love, and were married in Age 1535. In Age 1542, Cryonia was born on a spaceship while they were traveling between worlds. Before she had her abilities, she had black hair and her parents called her Nulla. She lived a fairly peaceful life, and accompanied their parents on their trips to other worlds. It was a simple enough life. Unfortunately, this peaceful existence would not last forever.
In 1548, her life changed for the worst. On orders from the Queen, The Saiyan Empire began invading other worlds in order to gain more resources in their inevitable confrontation with the Kold Empire. Cryonia's and her parents had been conducting terraforming research on a planet when they got wind of the attack. They quickly got on their ship in left. Unfortunately 5 inhabitants of that planet snuck onto the ship before it took off, wanting to get as far away from the system as possible. Her parents were initially furious that a bunch of stowaways had gotten on their ship, but ultimately decided to help them escape to safety, despite the fact Cryonia's parents were strong enough to force them off their ship, if they wanted to. This act of kindness would ultimately be their undoing. Ironically enough, their end would come by the actions of someone who they might have saved: the Queen was a baby about the Saiyan ship they had helped so many years ago.
A few days later, they made it to a fairly small planet that was an essentially an active spaceport. Cryonia and her parents dropped off the aliens, warning them to find another ship as soon as possible. There were plenty of ways off the planet for a affordable price: all they had to do was look. Before any of them could leave though, 3 Saiyan Pods dropped from the sky and landed 20 feet away from them. A Saiyan warrior emerged from each one. While the main forces of the empire was still conquering the planet they had recently fled, scouting parties had be sent out to take care of people who escaped from them. They moved to attack the aliens who stowed away with Cryonia's family.
It was clear to anyone who could sense power levels that the aliens would stand no chance. Turqos and Hydria decided to help them fight off the Saiyans, telling Cryonia to wait inside the ship. They and the the stowaways fought valiantly. They managed to kill two of the Saiyans, but in the process the three Saiyans managed to kill three of the stowaways and wound the other two in the process. The remaining Saiyan then flew forward and fired an energy blast that hit Cryonia's father at point blank range. He was killed instantly in the blast.
"DADDY!" Cryonia ran out of the ship towards the crumpled form of her father. The Saiyan gaze shifted between Cryonia and her mother. To Hydria's horror, the Saiyan fired a small energy blast at Nulla. Hydria managed to deflect it by firing a blast of her own though. This was what the Saiyan had been waiting for, and fired a fast moving energy sphere at Hydria's chest, sending her sprawling onto the ground with severe burns on her chest.
As the Saiyan moved to finish her and the rest of the stowaways off, he felt an explosive aura nearby. He turned to deal with this new threat, but proved to be too slow. Cryonia's powers had awoken, triggered by the rage she felt towards the Saiyan. From that moment on, half of her hair became white, and her eyes changed from dark blue to the cyan that they are in the present.
Time seemed to just freeze for Cryonia . She only recalled bits and pieces of the next couple of minutes. When she came to, the Saiyan was dead, lying in a pool of his own blood with icicles sticking out all over his body. Cryonia's powers had awoken when she needed them the most.
The remaining stowaway aliens managed to Despite her injuries, Cryonia’s mother managed to get her and her daughter off the ship, and they fled the planet. The aliens did what they could for Hydria, but it was obvious that she had suffered a mortal would. She told them coordinates where they should take Cryonia. She would be placed in the care of old family friends.
She then called Cryonia to come to her side. In her last moments she expressed how proud she was in her, and told her to not to give into despair, no matter how bad things got. The last thing she did was name her daughter Cryonia, now that she had her powers. Hydria then succumbed to her wounds and passed away in front of her sobbing child. Cryonia was only 6 years old at the time.

Cryonia was only 6 years old at the time.
{Growing Up and Family Life: Age 1549-1580}Despite the tragedy she suffered, Cryonia did her best to follow her mother's advice and tried her best to move on from it. She grew up under the care of her foster parents. As she grew up, she displayed a high level of intelligence. Most people who knew her referred to her as a genius. She proved adept at many aspects of science. Chemistry, Biology, engineering, and planetology were particular interests of hers. She got her hands on as many books and data files on the subject matter, always eager to learn more.
At the age of 20, she became a scientist she took up the same mantle her parents did. She joined the HWRE and went from planet to planet, conducting research and trying to find a way to restore the home world of her race. She became well known within scientific communities, particularly within her own species.
During this period in her life, she gradually fell in love with a fellow colleague, a Bijou named Photan Arlumia. Their feelings mutual, they got married during Age 1563. One year after that, they gave birth to a child. When her powers manifested 3 years later, they gave her the name Crystalia.
They traveled from world to world, conducting various forms of research and providing medical and other kinds of aid whenever they could. They became renowned scientists within the Elemi community, their research on medicine, biology (including a thesis about the factors that determine what kind of element Elemi would be able to control), and terraforming as all very impressive. While it wasn't enough to fix their home world by a long shot, their contributions certainly pushed the Elemi ever closer to having that dream realized.
During Age 1580, their travels took them to a world called Zekutren. It was a world that was on the edge of the Saiyan Empire. With the empire having weakened in recent years, the planets inhabitants, the Natrine, had managed to take back control of their planet. They were holding a four-day celebration on the anniversary of their independence. the Festival of Envion. Cryonia and Photan finished what they came there to do, but Crystalia wanted to stay in order to watch the whole festival. Photan admitted that it was an interesting event. Cryonia relented and decided to grant the request of her daughter. A day after that, the Kold Empire attacked Zekutren.
The Kold Empire was now taking advantage of the waning Saiyan Empire, and were conquering as many territories as they could. Cryonia suddenly had flashbacks to the day her parents lost their lives. Terrified of losing her family again, she tried to evacuate the planet with both of them. Crystalia and Photan wanted to stay and help the Natrine evacuate. It was a hopeless fight that they couldn't win, but at the very least they could help as many people as possible.
Despite her best arguments, she couldn't get them to budge. Cryonia wasn't going to abandon her family, so she took part in the evacuation. The battle went on for quite some time. They and the Natrines who were strong enough to fight back managed to hold them off as long as they could, getting as many Natrines of ships as possible with what they had.
Finally only one ship remained. Just as the last people were getting on, a ki beam pierced through Cryona's chest, sending her crumpling to the ground. Crystalia cried out and terror, running towards her mother. Photan had turned towards the cries of his daughter. He had just enough time to register what had happened before an energy sphere fell from the sky. Both he and Crystalia perished in the explosion.
Cryonia was in such terrible shape that she couldn't even cry out in horror. Despite her losses, she did all she could to cling onto life. She used her powers to seal her wound with ice, and then deliberately lowered the temperature of her body to put her in a semi-cryogenic state. She lost conscious as a result. The Natrines helping the evacuation killed the person responsible, then helped an absolutely horrified and grief stricken Cryonia onto the ship, then went back out to defend the ship while it took off.
Cryonia woke up a few days later on the Natrine ship. They expressed their surprise that they able to save her. She had been hit in a vital area, so by all rights she should have died. Since Cryonia put herself in a forced hibernation state, they were able to fix her body in time. They also told her while that their homeworld had fallen and was now enslaved by the Kold Empire, they had managed to get 10 ships off the planet with more then 200 of their people, thanks in part to the efforts of Cryonia and her family. They showed her gratitude with them, offering to take her with them out of the Galaxy. Cryonia had declined their offer though, still having too many ties to this part of the Galaxy. Once Cryonia had recovered enough, they gave her a pod and they parted ways with one another. It gave plenty of time for Cryonia to grieve. Like the death of her parents, it hadn't been for nothing. Although that didn't make her loss any less painful.

{Present Day: Age 1581-1587}Not only was Cryonia scarred by the loss of her husband and daughter, but the pain of losing her parents came back full force. Suffering from PTSD, she used her skills as a scientist to develop a drug to cope with it. It had a few side effects though, such as insomnia. Cryonia continued her research once she was in the proper mental state, and for the first time in her life, started training herself in the art of combat. In addition to restoring her homeworld, Cryonia made another vow. She would bring peace to the Galaxy so that no one would have to suffer what she had endured ever again. She would do anything to make this dream a reality, much like the dream of restoring her race's homeworld. She landed on Earth three months ago, continuing her research and training regiment in the hopes of one day seeing her goals come to fruition.
TechniquesCryonia’s abilities revolve around Ice, and is her bread and butter. Whether it’s frozen water or another subject, Cryonia uses her element skillfully in and out of battle.

[li][OT-1] Frozen Wave[/li]
Cryonia channels her ki into one hand and thrusts out her arm, firing out a blue energy wave towards a target. While this can be used with both hands, Cryonia prefers to use this move with only one hand.
[25% Cryonia's PL in damage]
[li][OT-I]Freezing Fist[/li]
Nyx channels her elements power through her arms and into her hands. Dense ice gauntlets form around her hands. This increases the strength behind her blows. She can either dismiss them by weakening the ice with her abilities and have them shatter, or vaporizes them if she uses a ki attack from her hands.

To visit planet Zekutren was to experience the past future coincide with one another. The resulting present was an interesting mix of modern and old tradition. The inhabitants of the planet, the Natrine, were both deeply connected to their homeworld and their environment, but realized the necessity of having a society with advanced technology. It allowed them to enter an environment of trade and commerce with other species. As such they only did the bare minimum of what they needed to have an advanced society. They had communications and ships that could travel a fair amount of distance. Although they tried to limit using their ships as much as possible to conserve fuel. They had no advanced weapons to speak of though. The Natrine could use Ki, but the majority of them weren't very strong, with a few exceptions here and there.
Until very recently, Zekutren was a part of the Saiyan Empire. The Saiyans influence had been steadily weakening though. Zekutren was on the edge of their territory, so it was harder for them to control it. This had cultivated in a rebellion which resulted in the Natrines taking control of the Planet. Now Zekutren was a booming place of trade of commerce in the farther reaches of the region, and served as a gateway between the more populated well known areas of the Galaxy and the further out regions where it was hard if not Impossible for the major powers to completely control.
Cryonia, her husband Protan, and her daughter Crystalia had arrived there the previous day. They were there to study the culture and species of this world, among other things. Spreading the word of their species plight was another important priority. Really there was quite a bit for them all to do. The next day, Crystalia wanted to attend the festival that was going on. The Festival of Envion was was a yearly celebration that commemorated their independence from Saiyan rule, and it was quite the elaborate display despite the fact that they were limited to what they could build by hand. The Natrines only used machines for manufacturing when they had to, and didn't have factories that constantly ran.
Neither of her parents wanted her to go alone: even though she could take of herself, anything could happen. So Cryonia had offered to take her there, even though she didn't like the idea of attending a very loud celebration. So she soon found herself at an alien celebration, which was interesting in its own right. Even if it wasn't something that didn't suit her well.
Crystalia walked along side a visibly annoyed Cryonia through the crowded streets and vendors of the festival. Crystalia loved studying other cultures and their practices, and she would be able to check out all the interesting things there. Her blue eyes were bright with excitement as she looked around the venue. Cryonia on the other hand, was honestly baffled by the amount of various races were attending it. She looked around, finding all of this rather strange.
“It may be a festival celebrating their independence from their saiyan overlords. They’re priding themselves on taking out an overtaxed enemy who had to cut back their budgets to maintain what footholds they still had. It’s the equivalent of bragging about killing a powerful enemy who was already dying of heart disease on the battlefield. Yes, you managed to accomplish your objective. But you’re just tempting the fates once you start confusing natural occurring elements such as disease and economic stagnation with your own merits.”
Crystalia gave her mother a very sly grin. Her mother was a very renowned scientist, but she did tend to set herself up to be mercilessly teased by others. Of course, the only one who was able to regularly do that to Cryonia was Crystalia. It wasn't exactly a thing that most people could get away with around her.
"You're just jealous that they've managed to attract all these people to their festival with only the bare minimum of other world communication when you haven't had a lot of success with your Home World Reclamation Effort awareness project. You've got sophisticated equipment at your disposal and are the best public speaker I know. Maybe you should ask the Natrine for help in organizing things."
Cryonia's face turned as red as a tomato, embarrassed that her daughter brought up that subject matter again. Despite her best efforts, she hadn't managed to get support from other species for the most important mission a Elemi or Bijou could take part in. Their homeworld was currently uninhabitable, so a great many of them had joined the HWRE to gather their resources and try to find a way to make it so that they could live on the surface again like they did millennia ago. While they had made very promising discoveries and scientific advancements, they weren't exactly getting much help from other species outside of their own race. It was expensive work, so most people weren't going to donate that many resources or hands to help restore a planet that wasn't theirs. And many planets were ruled under regimes that didn't care in the slightest about the state of the Elemi homeworld.
"I don't recall raising you to be such a cheeky brat! What I'm doing is far more important than this silly Festival! I just need to spread more awareness, that's all.... stop laughing!"
Cryonia's outburst only served to make Crystalia laugh all the harder. The passerby in the immediate vicinity looked at the both of them like were insane, but didn't focus on the strange duo for long. They were too busy partying in the festivities, and the two outsiders weren't doing anything malicious. Crystalia finally managed to stop laughing, stifling a couple of more giggles before managing to get her composure back.
"I'm sorry mom. The work you and dad do is incredible. Even if it's been hard gathering the support of other beings, you still do your absolute best at fixing our homeworld. Your research has helped so many people. I know you'll succeed eventually. And if you want to blame someone for behavior, blame Dad. I think he genetically passed down some traits of his personality you find annoying."
Cryonia either wasn't that mad to begin with, or was particularly easy to calm down. She crossed her arms, a sigh escaping her lips as she continued down the venue with her daughter.
"I wouldn't be surprised if that was true. You and your father both can be impossibly stubborn sometimes. That’s one thing I love about him though. He kept on challenging me on my theories and work, in a good way. He was the only guy to actually correct me on a error I made on one of my calculations. And he kept on trying to correct me. Even though he wasn’t always right, it kept on pushing me to new heights. I was already a very smart individual, but it was your father who made me brilliant.”
A very rare smile spread across Cryonia’s lips as she recollected her first meeting with Photan. Even Crystalia looked surprised at the expression on her mother's face. She didn’t often express this emotion this planely. It was usually much more low key then this.
"The first time we met, we argued over Elemental Power Theories. He's took the environmental argument. He argued that since DNA from parents seem to have little impact on what abilities an Elemi would get later in life, that we developed our abilities based on our current surroundings, and that while DNA certainly played a part, adapting to best suit our needs at the moment we got our powers was what determined things. My theory was, and still is based around the emotional and personality that each Elemi has. Like your father, I believe that DNA plays a minor role in determining what powers we receive. However, we gain our powers right when we start having our own unique personalities. Thus our abilities should be linked to how we perceive the world, how we feel, and of course, how we emotionally respond to certain situations."
Cryonia's face then broke out in a very sly smirk. Her next words made her daughter blush over their implications.
"We still argue about this matter to this day. So when we got married, we agreed on a bet. If one of us ever proved our theory was the right one, that the other one would have to stand up in front of the Elemi scientific community and present the findings of the correct theory, admitting that their own theory was wrong. Your father doesn't know it yet, but I'm on the verge of disproving his theory. All I need to do is make a field test. It would be immoral if I used someone else's youngling just to prove my theory. Even though the procedure I designed for this experiment is perfectly safe. There's an easy solution for that though. It requires some assistance from your father though. It isn't a project I can do by myself."
Yep, Crystalia had heard her mother right. Her eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets as she fully registered what her mother actually said. That put a mental picture in her head that she immediately wanted to purge from her brain. She stopped where she was standing, slowly backing away from Cryonia.
"That's a... interesting bet you've guys made. I guess I'll see who was right when one of you makes that public announcement. There was this stall back there that a very interesting selection of charms. I better get going before they get sold out!"
Crystalia turned on her heel and walked quickly into the crowd, much to Cryonia's amusement. She was going to be within sensing range as long as they were both in the boundaries of the festival, so losing track of her was never going to be an issue. Cryonia had managed to get the last laugh this time around. Maybe now her daughter would think twice before trying to tease her. She raised her hand to her mouth and called out to her.
"Meet me back at the entrance to the festival ground in three hours! I love you!" Cryonia then looked around, seeing if there was something that would catch her interest. She found something that caught her eye in a very unexpected place. She went over to a strand selling fruit and waited in line. After paying the cashier, she walked away from it. She help up a fruit that looked similar to a pear, although it was completely white. She stared at it curiously.
"Is this related to similar looking fruit on other planets? Or did it naturally grow here like this? It'll be easy enough to find out once I make a few tests."
Cryonia pocketed the fruit before exploring the venue some more. She definitely preferring working in the lab, although this place was turning out to be more interesting then she thought it would be.

"This is amazing! I can't believe that they managed to attract so many other species to attend this celebration! And they got so many items from off world too. They already have an amazing selection of items produced on this planet as it is. I'm completely blown away by what the Nartrines did while using the bare minimum of technology! This is going to be so much fun!"Crystalia walked along side a visibly annoyed Cryonia through the crowded streets and vendors of the festival.

OOC Stuff:
This is a transfer of a character from another site, Nyx. There a LOT of major differences between this incarnation and the incarnation on the other site, including the name. There’s enough there to prove that they’re the same concept though.
I tried looking at the lore to see which planet was controlled by which faction during which time period. It never said which planet belonged to which faction during the various ages. Although that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't established canon in that regard. So to avoid continuity errors, I invented the Natrine race. I had them leave the Galaxy though, so they won't play any kind of role in the RP itself (unless if you want them to). I wanted to tie in Cryonia's backstory to that event in 1580, but if I used an established planet I could have broken site continuity. If you're bothered that I made up my own race for this purpose, then I can tie things together better in a way that is acceptable, if need be.)
I fully expect for some things to have to be changed. Although mostly within the technique area. Hopefully I won't have to change that much of the backstory and the like. I noticed you didn't have a place to put in personality. I think I like Cryonia's personality not being listed. Adds a bit more mystery to the character. If you have questions or concerns, let me know and I'll address them.)
