Another day in the Cold North.
The previous day, much like back in East City, didn't end the way she had expected things to end. Instead of finding the one who had landed near the area, she had run into someone else entirely, who didn't appear as she seemed to be. They were a hybrid who had qualities that she appreciated, and it was only because of that, was the day not a complete waste of her time.
Of course, things had to change soon enough. It took nearly two days before the being that landed in East City, had adjusted enough to reveal themselves from hiding. She imagined it had to be the same for up here in the Cold North, for this one to show.
Or at least was hoping. It wouldn't do any good at all to have to wait longer than the time she had spent in East City. Not only because she didn't like the climate up here, but also because she couldn't afford to have that much time around here.
If not for the friends she had in her own personal life, being home schooled was an option she would have thought was better for her. She certainly knew her red-headed cousin wouldn't have mind just coming to her right after school, in the house that she had grew up in. Time where she left her servants to take care of the mansion without her own supervision and entertainment.
But sacrifices had to be made when living two distinct and separate lives. Neither were really ones she could live without, unless she wanted to give up happiness for power and recognition. A decision which she also knew many in her life wouldn't allow.
So to try and draw out who she was looking for, she had acted as a ticking beacon of power, since she had gotten up today. No bites yet, as far as she could tell, as unlike back in East City, there had yet to be any signs or rumors of anything new.
Though any markings like the webbing of the being she met back then, would have been buried under the constant snow in this area. There would have to be something better to get her attention that this city had a new inhabitant trying to settle in.
The possibility that this being would only come out at night had crossed her mind, but waiting until then would mean risking not finding anything at all. So this was the only method that she had, and as exciting as it could be to race herself, she had to admit that it was also tiring. The climate here already made it difficult not to exhaust her lungs, which needed to combat the cold.
Shivering was a condition that she normally wouldn't succumb under, due to her body needing to catch up to what she was feeling, and she was fast enough to usually also be someplace warm. But acting as a beacon didn't give much choice other than staying out here.
An appalling weakness that was so easy to control, if only waiting somewhere while her strength was being hidden, didn't reveal her identity. The inhabitants here might not have been able to match her power, especially since she wasn't really causing trouble beyond fear, but it was still ridiculous in her eyes to go that route. Not to mention serve as evidence she couldn't handle the weather here. It was beyond tempting to be in her wolf form with these surroundings, which was more suited than her bat.
She could only vaguely recall the last time she had also decided to mess with inhabitants of a city that way as well. This method wasn't exactly one that she missed, but it was bad to be out of practice when it came to using these different form of hers.
The only time she could really put it to good use, was when she was training by herself, rather than against her servants. She might have been trying to injure them in each session, but leaving deep scars with her wolf form, or giving them a possibly easy hit in her bat form, wasn't something that she wanted. Her mist form would also just be toying with them, which wasn't progress.
She would have to think about it more. Giving into her desire in finding warmth, was just something she saw more as a measure to beat, than really one she needed right now. The climate around here was rough, but not enough for her to get frostbite just yet.
So as her current trial had ticked down until her true strength matched that of a human, she explored another part of the city, snow crackling underneath her boots. The people around her, although looked cautious at her having appeared from behind a building, went about their business as normal. No different from the civilians in other cities, including her own, which was rather curious.
She was aware that people were used to both feeling and hearing the possible threat of danger, but she was hoping to see more of a lasting effect on her surroundings. Wanted to know that with this power of hers, she had exerted some kind of influence.
Frowning, she stopped near what appeared to be a convenience store, resting the muscles that had been exerted with her run around the city. Its use became more apparent as a bit of pain circulated in her arms and legs, but the cold around her took focus off of it. She was shivering just a bit, though actively tried to stop those movements, or at least better hide it, continuing to walk.
Too early to go and act as a beacon again, where she still hadn't noticed any results. Only dismissive stares, or mild interest in seeing someone like her walk from place to place, standing around, hardly doing anything. Looks that should have upset her, and the lack of results that she was getting, should have kept her disinterested enough to play around with the locals here as a wolf.
But all she felt was that she was above such behavior, no matter what reasoning she had to go back to old habits. If she really wanted to punish those who looked at her the wrong way, all it would take was a dash forward, and just striking them down like that.
She no longer had a need to require hiding behind guises that were not her own. What attention she did get, she had been around here long enough to not be challenged, and the being that she was looking for, clearly must have not been good enough to challenge her.
That had to be the reason with her lack of success. She was too good for most to match up. So much that there was just nothing but cowards around. People meant for her to decide whether or not they should live or die, if she so felt like ending them.
What chills that came across her body, and what soreness was left in her limbs, she had gone and pushed through, as she sped forward once more. But she had a purpose this time, that went beyond just racing herself, against this decision to suppress her strength.
Those she passed by, both men and women dressed heavily for the weather, would be shoved one way, or briefly pulled along with her. What children were around, were forced to helplessly watch those they knew tossed around, as if their bodies were just ragdolls.
Screams and crying filled the air, but not nearly loud enough to drown out the snow. Their fear and their pain, a part of her recognized and sympathized with, though her actions were neither out of anger from the stares, nor out of her own boredom.
It was the pattern on how she found her allies, and her shifting luck, which was upsetting. Having to wait for something out of control like this, and risk wasting her time, was just all too tiring. This ally was supposed to be the end of having to travel at a different pace than her own leisure. An event that would keep future ones to her city, until it was time to progress beyond.
These people were nothing more than an outlet for her right now. She could have done much worse to the city than just tossing people around. Pacing her breathing was becoming more difficult, with both the distance she was covering, and her unsuspecting targets.
It felt like there was only a sliver of her true strength left, and as that had decreased to its end, she had slowed to a stop, where the walls of a building served as her support. Her limbs felt heavy again, numb with a tingling sense of pain.
The blood inside her body, which were only slightly bruised by those who fought back, wanted to escape. That was what this tingling had felt like, and in conjunction with the cold weather, things just seemed to intensify. But suffering from the effects of fighting or not, there was no danger. The time that she had spent looking for this being now instead of following patterns, was a waste.
Darkness surrounded her, as she closed her eyes, trying to focus her attention elsewhere, until she had recovered. She still refused to rely on her other forms for something like a run around the city. Those days were long over, for something that wasn't a threat.
Her breathing was slowing back down, though the tingling was still there, and the cold still brushed against her body, turning her pale skin pinker. She couldn't feel any other differences, and the wall she chose to use as support, hid her body from view as usual.
It was just waiting around. Patience was a virtue, of which in conditions like these, brought annoyance upon her. To willingly stand here, and have to endure this, was no advantage past serving as a measure. But she was sure she would fall over without this support.
As her eyes opened back up, her vision gazing on the dome wall in front of her, she heard crackling of snow in the distance. It was faint, and approaching at a pace that was familiar, but she couldn't place at the moment. The sounds were getting closer by the second, and seemed intent on approaching her. Though whoever it was, she still was far from being worried.
"Whenever there's a cry for help..."
The voice that spoke was that of a male, who spoke with an authoritative tone, which she would have taken seriously, if not for this introduction beginning to sound like a speech. It was enough to have her shut her eyes with a groan, which didn't seem to deter this guy, as he simply continued on. She could only imagine what kind of ridiculous outfit he was wearing.
"And there's no one else to step in, expect the fastest man in this city, Dashi, to do so."
Now that had gotten her attention. Her eyes snapped open, and as difficult as it was to do so, she had turned back to see someone very blue, and very alien. So much that he had no visible pupils, just a sclera. The guy was also wearing armor like that of her Majin servant, as he took on a pose that she recognized what the guys at her school would call a dab.
To her however, it just looked like he was sneezing into his arm. His claim might have been true, since humans weren't really a challenge, though the title kinda implied that he was faster than her, taking away his surprising care of distinguishing genders.
"You're confident, but you're wrong about your speed. I'm the fastest one in this city."
That pose of his had ended, and he stood with a more normal posture. The confident expression she had seen though, turned into a puzzled frown, as if she had said something wrong. If he didn't really think that she could prove him wrong, he was highly mistaken.
"It was why I said fastest man. But that's not the point here."
He was as dismissive as the locals around here, and she was sure he wasn't one of them. She would surely have spotted someone with his complexion when she was looking for someone alien the other day. He had to have been the one that she was looking for.
"I don't care what you want. It's what I want that matters."
What exhaustion she was dealing with, had all but dulled down to nothing more than what felt like a red tingle. Though she also felt a familiar sense of vigor, which from the look of both the man, and listening to her own voice, that she recognized wasn't normal. The tone had spite in it, where she hadn't meant to put it. She must have looked hideous.
"I'll be taking you as prisoner, and will be making you into a servant. What life you hope to have here, is as good as gone."
That look in his eyes, had to have been the cause of this power she so often avoided tapping into. He wasn't giving her any stupid speeches, so that must have been a good sign for her, wasn't it?
She stepped closer, and the man had backed away with each step. His expression was more of caution rather than fear, but it was a look that she would enjoy squeezing the most out of, if given the opportunity.
"Say something. Or be foolish and run."
"Run?"
That seemed to have struck something within the alien, because he quickly shook his head, and stepped forward, eying down to her with his much taller physique. That confidence was clearly back, though his face was puzzled again. What was with this guy?
"You got it all wrong. You just remind me of my captain."
If her face was as monstrous as she thought it was, it had gone back to normal, upon hearing what the man had said. That vigor was receding away, and she gave her own confused look. This guy's captain must have been dead or something, wasn't he? What was with these aliens from space exactly? Either they had an uncanny resemblance to humans, or they talked like them.
It was frankly annoying, to go and meet groups of species from space, that somewhat reminded her of her humanity. She held a hand up, not caring about what he had to say about this either. This search for allies was exhausting, and now she wanted to just find actual servants. The kind she dreamed of having greet her at the door, and prepare her meals for her.
"Again, I don't care. Just follow me."
"This is what I mean. You've gotta give me time to get my things."
The alien had gone and ran off, leaving a trail of afterimages of himself, that had the illusion of a streak of sorts. It was unlike her just being a straight up blur, which meant that the guy was fast, but just nothing compared to her own speed.
That was the way it should be.
