Prologue
Carva wasn't always cruel and sadistic. No. Like most villains in world history, he was a child at one time. His innocence and naivety were a far cry from the warrior we know today, the beastly Saiya-jin hybrid. Seven foot of bad attitude came from a small child who grew up in the forests of Earth. So one would wonder, what happened to the sweet child?
Flashback - Age 4
"Hehehe...hi theeeeere!" The young doe looked at the Saiya-jin child as he hung by his tail in a tree. From the deer's point of view, she saw a young boy of about five years old with kind brown eyes and long, wild black hair. The child wore a red dogi with no mon on the back and small black shoes. He seemed to be having a lot of fun hanging up there by his tail, and the deer perceived him as harmless as she grazed upon the green leaves of a berry bush.Carva Panz, as he was known to his Earthling mother, had developed a love of animals from the young age of two months . A small blue bird had once landed on the young child's round head and he'd simply giggled. Of course, as he tried to touch the bird, it simply flew out of reach. But that was the way of wild animals.
He flipped down from the branch and landed on his feet upon the soft grass, bending at the knees. Slowly the young Carva would move toward the brown doe, reaching out to touch the crown of it's head. He'd coo to the animal. "That's a good deer! You're hungry, aren't you?"
If deer could purr, this animal would. It was totally at ease with the young Saiya-jin hybrid who showed a gentile nature, scratching behind her ears. His tail would sway back and forth, a curiosity in his eyes as he watched the doe eat. Was this what his dad had informed him of? Funny...he didn't see any horns on the creature. His dad told him that deer had horns...
He narrowed his eyes. "Where's your horns?"
His gentle touch allowed him to pet the deer, and if he were present Carva, this wouldn't be happening. No. This would end in bloodshed, but as we've said Carva wasn't always as he is today.
The peaceful scene would soon turn tense. He could feel the hair on his tail stand straight up as he stood there...he felt as if he and his new friend were being watched. A dead silence would fall over the clearing as the wind caused the waves of green sway to and fro. The doe looked up from her grazing at Carva, a fear shown in her deep black eyes.
BANG!
The forest came to life as the sound of a gunshot would rip through the silence, birds flocking into the sky like dark grey clouds. The flock of birds would almost black out the sun, and the doe...Carva would watch helplessly and almost in slow motion as the life left the animal's eyes. He'd watch as it slumped over, hitting the ground with a dull thud.
His eyes began to burn as he dropped to one knee, sniffling. He tried to revive the doe by shaking it but this only served to cause it's still warm blood to cover his tiny hands. Carva would sob as this sadness would overtake him...he hadn't any idea why anyone would attack such a peaceful creature. This...this was his first brush with dwath. The finality of this whole thing would haunt the future Beast at first...but...later on, he would choose to embrace it.
He heard the twigs snapping in the forest, and would see a human male moving through the clearing. The man would dwarf young Carva as the boy looked up at the huge adult who stood there in his camouflage fatigues holding his rifle over heard is shoulder.
"Dang...I reckon I'm a better shot than I thought!" The older man would laugh, moving over and shoving Carva to the side. "Move, kid. You don't wanna be the next victim, do you?"
The young Saiya-jin watched on in awe as the hunter kneeled next to the deer. He'd go on to pull a small pack from his hip and open it, pulling out a very sharp, very long knife. Carva could feel it in his bones...he could feel his heart racing as he watched the man start at the top of the deer's abdomen and saw upward along the ribcage of the animal.
He felt his blood boil, his tail bushy as his fists began to tremble. Through tears of anger, he'd cry out. "What are you doing?! Stop....stop it (hic)...right now!" He'd stutter and sob, his anger only intensified by his lack of strength to stop this butchery.
The hunter would continue to field dress his kill, his knife easily cutting through the soft flesh of the animal. He paid no mind to the crying child who stood just a yard from him, the child's body surrounded by a dull white aura. Chances were, the hunter wouldn't know about ki if it bit him in the ankle anyway. He wanted one thing and that was to procure a trophy.
Carva growled as his sadness suddenly turned into anger and he'd roar. "I SAID STOP IT!" The child would yell as he lifted off the ground and exploded forward, driving himself headfirst into the chest of the human. The hunter's breath would leave him as the child's rock hard head would slam into his sternum, sending him flying into a tree.
The child would mercilessly pound the face of the hunter with his tiny fists, blinded by sheer rage...blood would begin to cover Carva's fists, and...
Present Day
He sat up in his bed quickly, sweat pouring down his forehead as he drew in a sharp breath. That wasn't a dream that The Beast was expecting and being taken back to his childhood was a nightmarish experience. For you see, this moment would be one which reminded The Beast that he was once weak. Clearly, he didn't like this.
He felt the weight on the bed next to him move and shift. The evil Saiya-Jin would look next to him to see her bare, blue skin and red hair as she slept peacefully with a tired smile on her face. Carva would not smile...she was a means to an end, pretty to look at or not. Her name was Aphradite. She was a Heran woman. She was his "friend".
Her golden eyes would flutter open and look at Carva, tilting her head. "Problem, big man?" She'd set up, covering her form with the white sheets. The sheets still smelled of the previous owners, but she could deal with that.
Carva simply grimaced and looked up at the crescent moon shedding it's light through the balcony window. He grunted. "Hrmf."
"Awww, come on. You can tell me, snookums." She'd say, placing a small hand on his left shoulder, his scarred skin rough beneath her fingers. She'd seen him in this state many times, become used to his form. It was the form of warrior. She, at four foot eleven, was the concubine of a monster and she loved it. Beat being a slave back on Bris.
"You're lucky you are who you are, Aphra. Else I would kill you for calling me that. As for my problem? I had that stupid dream once again." His stone cold eyes reflected the luminescence of the moon, yet he remained stoic.
She tucked a strand of firey red hair behind a pointed ear, her movements not very delicate for a lady. But she was a Heran woman, after all. "The one about the deer, yes love? Or...was it..."
"I...go over it in my head many times. I think about it, and how weak I was back then...how I could do nothing to save the deer's life. Yet...I was able to severely damage that foolish human...nearly took his life..." A smirk crept over his lips as he sat there. He looked at his hands...he could still feel the warm blood trickling through his fingers. "...then, mother would stop me. Father would pay the hospital bill. Pft. If it were their way, I'd still be that weak child."
She chuckled and laid her head against his chest. "You definitely aren't weak, dearest. Remember that time on X25? Murdered that whole planet easy. You've Rubega to thank for such strength."
Rubega. That name brought back memories to Carva, and he would be the man who'd changed Carva's life forever. But...that is a story for another time.
To be Continued.
