She still didn't understand how the others did it.
Becoming a Matriarch was supposed to fix things, but how much of it had really even helped? Everything that had came with this transformation, made her see the world in the kind of way she didn't want. People who weren't like them, seemed to be so boring, and she found herself missing how much she had enjoyed conversations, even though she had never liked being put on the spot back then. It still didn't change now, and only really had grew more than ever.
Though instead of faking like she knew what she was doing, she didn't even have to try. Her expression was just so cold now, it just wasn't like her at all. It was a problem, but she figured it also kinda wasn't? Things were fine around other Vampires, but it was still pretty annoying having to deal with other people. She wouldn't have called it regret, choosing to become one, but more something to get used to. A lot of things that she had to get used to.
All these responsibilities that only really started coming up now. It drove her own senses a bit crazy, more than how they saw the world already did. She could really feel how much the other Vampires meant to her now, when it wouldn't have even been a passing thought for her some months ago.
But a lot of things were changing now. Bris gets attacked because of Wintera, and now there was going to be a battle with the demons on the city at some point? Yeesh. The only thing she was glad about, was how she wasn't going to be around when that whole thing had happened. Rukia liked to talk a lot about how death didn't really mean anything, and while she could believe that without seeing things herself, the girl wasn't really the best person to ask.
There was just so much hate that could come from her, even before they were all made to be equal, she still found her to be a little scary. A lot of arguing that she didn't really get either, without taking some time to think about it. But she was definitely the one who'd keep them alive throughout all of this. It was going to take so much for them to die by someone, with that kind of leadership. Not that she'd really fight if she didn't have to.
That much, she knew still didn't change about herself. Having to help gather the others was already starting to be a pain. West City of all places, had to be her designation. The others were in the other fallen cities, and they were supposed to just meet outside the wasteland where the ships were.
But what if someone had attacked or something? She never really liked the feeling of having to wait for someone much stronger to arrive. Fighting could be so awful, it was only really the way people looked at her, and expected things from her, that made her know she couldn't just really give up.
Not when the other Vampires had started to call her "Mom" now, being a Matriarch and all. And they acted like that was so natural too. Like yeesh. She hadn't even been one for all that long, and now they were starting to make her feel attached? That was so much pressure, she would squirm right now, if she wasn't working. Sitting ontop of one of the buildings, she had watched as hundreds of bats had started to slowly gather towards her.
Clinging to buildings and such in a way that had hid them, though there wasn't really any point, nor worry, since the humans in this city wouldn't be able to make sense of it anyway. The others were ordered to be in their bat forms, and it was only the sounds of their screeching that really reminded her of just what she was doing here. Once enough of them were gathered, she was supposed to send them off outside the city to head towards Bris.
How long they were supposed to all stay there, it was never really something they could know. Just orders by Rukia, that it was somewhere better for them. But the place was apparently cold, from what she could remember Wintera had talked about. Nothing she was really eager about, but what other options were there, you know? Occasionally, she had looked down below at those in West City, who they were supposed to just go and give up on, when the demons attacked.
There weren't enough ships to really spare, and the attack with the demons were supposed to go on without a hitch. What happened after, was supposed to be just the earthlings dealing with the idea that they had to live alongside demons, but it was probably just a lot more complicated than that.
Some pictures were taken of her, and really just what was going on, but the occasional voice that spoke into her head, made her care less about doing any posing. If it wasn't for her learning how to block her mind, so many questions would be coming through from one of these little guys flying around.
Questions that were likely going to wind up happening anyway. They were already told of what was going on, but there was always going to be someone who thought it was some kind of cover up, or whatever was more complicated than it really should be. They would be safe, with her and the others watching.
She'd do her part to make sure of that.

West City was a weird place to be, twenty years in the past. It was the place she was last at when traveling backwards in time, snuffing out her flames and seemingly putting an end to the spirit inside of Excalibur. Not a happy place, for sure. Even if the memories were so long ago now, it still felt as if those events had transpired just yesterday. Hasenya was well beyond the city's limits, standing as an observer from the nearby wilderness simply looking onwards towards the city, lost in her own thoughts and unpleasant memories for the moment.
"Don't push yourself too hard, Hasenya.”
The voice entered her mind suddenly and without warning, but it couldn't have been Excalibur. It was just an intrusive thought, nothing more than a painful memory taunting her, reminding her that the only friend she had was possibly dead forever. Hasenya didn't know the spirit within the blade to get tired. She had cleaved mountains in half, split tyrannical rulers in two and turned the bits to dust, all with just an uttered phrase and a swing of her blade. It was a power gifted by the gods, one that she might have abused for the last time. She could accept that power being gone, but she would have done anything to have her friend back. Even if Excalibur were just an inconveniently oversized broadsword, Hasenya would have loved to have her company now. Something to focus on other than her own negative headspace.
Though when a swarm of bats suddenly surged passed going just over the top of her head, she found a potential new distraction. Nothing as pleasant as the kind spirit in her blade, but it would do for now. It wasn't every day that bats would just do something like that- Did bats travel in swarms at all? Hasenya blinked, watching these strange acting creatures as they continued on without paying her any mind. The answer was simple, then. These weren't any simple bats, and given the time of the event and the location they were headed she could easily put two and two together. Of course there were still too many variables to say anything with a hundred percent certainty, but if Hasenya knew anything about vampires, she knew that Rukia was involved.
And Rukia being involved meant she might just have a badly needed ally.
Hasenya knew the price of such an arrangement, which meant that she would need to be.. as a vampire might put it, meatier. Maybe lively was a better way to put it? Like Hell she would know, she didn't drink blood. She didn't have time to get beefier, but she could sure make the lady a promise. A promise that all her relatives would collectively beat her ass for, except maybe Jarvis, but sometimes you gotta get down to get up. The Elemi adjusted the sword on her back and then took off into the air, sprouting wings of hot ash and ember as she kept pace with the swarm of bats. Making sure to stay far back, and to suppress her power regardless of how minuscule it might currently be.
She had never personally met the Matriarch, the most she ever caught was a glimpse of the vampire woman and a sizable group of what Hasenya would personally describe as 'goons'. But proper goons, goons that would die for their master. Hasenya shuddered and even felt some disgust to know that someone could show such unyielding obedience to a single person based simply off of power. The way Hasenya saw it, if someone's stronger than you, you should feel free to admire them but you should never stop trying to surpass them just to keep kissing their ass like some sorry coward. It might have its benefits like protection and being taken care of, but this Elemi preferred to remain completely independent. Maybe she had some Saiyan pride in her, after all.
Hasenya kept low to the ground, using the tops of trees as some sort of visual cover while sticking not too closely behind her one lead that would get her to a meeting with the famous vampire. If the stories were true, she wouldn't have to worry about a fight unless she started it herself. Or if things just went incredibly wrong, incredibly fast. The latter wasn't an uncommon thing to happen in Hasenya's two decades of life, not even close. Still, she knew Tomina and Excalibur would both beat her ass for thinking so negatively and continued to trail her target..s. With how clustered they were, it was hard to remember they were way more than just a single entity. She didn't like the idea of having to revisit a place that held painful memories, but with her mother lost and likely to never be found without expanding her search to other planets, she needed to do something productive. Something to get her closer to keeping her promise to her cousin.
Nothing more than flashing images in her mind, their faces frozen just enough for her to recognize them, as they all spoke telepathically to her. They were only allowed to pass through as she had allowed them to, but though there was never too many, the weight of their presence was still very something she still hadn't gotten used to. The others were so much better off dealing with this sort of thing. Trying to herself, only made her want to lie down.
The faces she saw were familiar to her, but none of them were really anyone she saw enough, because they were favored by Rukia or one of the others in some way. It was a battle for each of them trying to talk to her, and what they had wanted to say, really wasn't too different from any of the others.
What was going on with this gathering? How long before they'd be able to stretch out their legs? Were they able to be allowed to turn into their mist or wolf forms? Things she could answer all at once, when she could muster up the energy too, just like all of the other meetings they've had.
Being out here was better than being underground like what they used to, but she guessed she was expecting too much to think things would be different. Some of them here, she could feel were recent fledglings, which only meant this whole thing was a whole surprise to drag them away from, wherever they had been.
But it was supposed to be necessary if they wanted to stay alive, and she only squirmed just a little bit, remember that. She was in charge of their lives. Most of them weren't as strong as she and the others could ever be. Or were really allowed to come close, until they had become Antediluvians like Rukia.
It wouldn't come soon though. Not unless things had really went well for them enough to grow in power so similarly and quickly. The thought of her muscles tightening from some of the training that they could be involved in for that, was painful. Nothing that she was really forced into, but she wasn't going to let herself be behind the others. Touka was the only one able to take things pretty casually, but she could also handle this whole thing better.
There's someone here. Watching.
There was never a need to answer any of the telepathic messages that were sent her way, just yet, as she was meant to only listen and decipher those who actually had concerns that wouldn't be answered all at once. But a familiar face had soon came through the telepathic link with a warning.
Kiyomi had always been so matter of fact, since she and the others had met the girl. The way the tone of her voice came off so flat, and how calm she could be, it made her wonder just why the other Vampire stayed as a number, remaining in a coven. But not enough to really go and ask her about it.
She wasn't really good with that sort of thing. It was already hard enough having to listen to people, and knowing that they were going to expect her to come up with a solution to their problems. Or at least know that she was going to do something about it. She had the power to change things.
We have am unknown visitor, so I'll cut the wait short by saying, our move to Bris is intended to be a temporary one. If you wish to stay to fight against the demons, you're welcome to, but you'll be forsaken under our protection. Now, by my order, head out to the wastelands for your departure.
No matter how many telepathic concerns had been sent to her so far, there wasn't really a quota to be met. If they wanted to challenge anything like not being heard, it was Rukia that would end up dealing with that stuff. She was supposed to be the better queen after all, among all these other beings.
Her eyes had been closed the entire time she had spoke, since it was just easier to focus on them, doing so, but opened up after giving the order. Any communication they wanted to send her, her mind was already blocking away, a sigh escaping her as the weight of their presence had left as they did.
She already felt so exhausted, but was going to feel even more, knowing she was going to have to see what this whole thing was all about. What smile she might have had, being around one of her own, wouldn't reach her eyes any longer without them. It was going to be nothing but fake feelings beyond what had left her mind. That was just the way things were for them. What was supposed to be a punishment for trying to even go on and pursue power.
Though her eyes had scanned the area to just where this visitor might have been, she saw nothing more than the common people just walking through the city itself. Attention towards her had died down somewhat, but with the fake black wings she so often wore, there were still stares here and there.
Holding out her hand, she guessed this was the best option, and only sighed knowing the others would have done something different. She knew her form had blurred away as her body had physically changed and grew into something that made her look more nineteen, than the sixteen year old body she normally had.
The power that was gathered within her hand, would also quickly grow into something the people below could take fear of. Even before she had gotten to know what kind of person Rukia was, she could still remember being a bystander of the days the other Vampire had flared her power to attract other fighters.
It was a thing of the past nowadays, but wasn't?
TWC: 1,953 PL: 4,699,331 as Matriarch [x13] is active.
Charging [OT-3] Aerial Blaster, to lure out Hasenya.
The last version of Aerial Push, where Miki throws a single punch using both her hands, and releases a large concentration of invisible ki at a single target. 100% of PL in damage.
The Elemi thought she was completely safe hidden in her dematerialized form. Just a lingering cloud of smoke hovering over an unsuspecting rooftop's smokestack. A completely reasonable place for smoke to be, and am ore than perfect place for Hasenya to sit and watch whatever it was that was going on with the city. The tricky part had been the transition from wilderness to city, and then from ground to rooftop. At the time it felt like the perfect plan, allowing Hasenya a quiet moment to carefully think about how she was going to approach Rukia, or a subordinate of hers that might be lingering nearby. Hasenya herself questioned how she was able to see when she was just a little bit of smoke. But looking a gift horse in the mouth had a reputation of leading to bad things for her, so she pushed aside that irrelevant topic and focused on the matter at hand. Watching and waiting for the perfect moment to approach.
She watched for what felt like forever, running over every little possibility in her head and crossing off anything she could say that might be offensive or too much information. It had been a long time since she had to play such a risky game of politics, except in this particular case there was a little more at stake than where she might be laying her head tonight. Sure enough though, her peaceful wait would have to end. What sucked is that it forced Hasenya to act now, and since she at least considered herself to be one of the good guys, there was only one proper way to respond when there were potential innocents in danger.
Hasenya lurched forward from her hiding place, throwing herself to the streets below and reforming into a corporeal, physical form as she descended towards the ground becoming whole as soon as she stuck the landing. It was impossible to miss her. White hair, red eyes, radiating an aura of smoldering ash and embers with Excalibur in one hand and what must have been a fire-based attack charging in the other. The smoking bolt of hot ash concentrated into her palm grew to a size closer to a regular softball. It wasn't anything like what could be fired at her in retaliation, and she was perfectly aware of this. Maybe in another life she wouldn't have had to worry so much about the obligations of someone claiming themselves to be a hero, but in this one she couldn't run and make herself look like a hypocrite whenever she would rag on whoever else might claim responsibility over keeping cities' and people safe.
"This was not how I intended to show myself.. But I wasn't too big a fan of your fancy lookin' trick there." The Elemi spoke, trying to conceal whatever nervousness and anxiousness she might feel behind her usual sass. Though if any of those bedside stories were true, hiding anything would be pointless. It was pretty damn scary thinking that she might be an open book without so much as a dinner date or a good ass kicking, first. "If me showing myself is what you wanted, ya got it. Just don't go blasting folks where I can see or feel it." She then added on, hoping that this introduction wouldn't end in her getting blasted into little bits and pieces that not even the Dragon Balls could put back together.

Charging [OT-2] Ember Wave and standing her ground, probably the worst idea she's had all week.
Not too many humans really bothered learning how to sense ki.
Learning to do so herself, back when she had first became a Vampire, involved so much of her time, trying to do what others had seemed to grasp easily. It was an embarrassing time, but she found a trick to doing so, while working on how to fight others first. Give into the state of a bloodfrenzy.
Her coven wasn't really allowed to kill her, early on. She wasn't like some of the other turned Vampires, who already wanted to lead, not long after. So it didn't matter how many times she had let herself go crazy, and things had seemed to just make more sense in the end, attacking people in that way.
Not really a transformation that really saw light now, but she could never forget it either. There was so much feeling while lusting for blood, and although she had lost that, after becoming a Matriarch, it wasn't enough to go starving herself to go back to it. It took a lot to do that anyway.
The stronger she had gotten, the easier it was to notice how much she depended less on blood. That it didn't take her all too long to figure out what everyone else already had. The trouble came with being strong enough to be out on her own, and learning to hide how much power that she had.
But those were troubles they didn't really need to worry about anymore. It didn't matter if people knew or not that she was more than human. Lady Rukia had wanted them to walk around feeling safe, and the idea of having to suppress her power now at all, only seemed like she'd be torturing herself.
At least, if she had to be around here like this, all alone while the others were busy. She had been told that there was someone watching them, and trusted that belief, knowing the girl knew way better than she did. Could probably sense ki better than she did too. They could turn into mist, and had better senses in their two other forms. Wherever this person was, if they had any good in them at all, they would show themselves without her just asking.
The idea that she might have had to shout over the crowd of walking people, and cause more of a scene than she already was, she'd hide face from, if this was any other situation. Just who was this person, and why couldn't they just walk away after staring at her, like anyone else?
It was creepy, coming from someone who used to drink blood from random strangers. The power that she had concentrated, she guessed was a bit of proof on just how much things had changed for her. She could control her ki enough to make it invisible. If she and the others were just the type to attack cities at this point in their lives, it would be more of a regression, from what had been a phase, for at least Lady Rukia. It'd bring unnecessary attention too.
Maybe quicker and more flashy than she had wanted, the one who had been creeping out on her, had revealed themselves to be some woman. An Elemi, from the looks of it? That burning fire and smoke reminded her of Lithie's combusting gas, when the girl had gotten angry. Though this woman didn't seem to be in pain. What probably surprised her more, than knowing she was being watched by a girl, was that the power she felt going against her, was so much weaker.
She wasn't really good with that sort of thing. It was already hard enough having to listen to people, and knowing that they were going to expect her to come up with a solution to their problems. Or at least know that she was going to do something about it. She had the power to change things.
Other than a few slight twitches in her lip, which would have made anyone else brush it off as nothing, her face didn't really show any surprise, like she would have around the others. Though the light in her eyes, she knew looked a bit more lively, but nothing more than something like a burning candle.
"I'm surprised you can even see it."
The woman had spoken, and as she did, the ki she had been charging had stopped. She hadn't meant to do more than what had been said, doing that. Though she had jumped down and landed from the building she had been sitting on, using the feeling of falling to try and calm her own thoughts. There wasn't really even a need to worry, if this woman just wasn't suppressing her power. But her thoughts went back to being ogled at, had her slightly shift her body back.
"Just what do you want that you had to spy for?"
Her eyes had narrowed, knowing that the only thing that had caused her not to just back up against a wall, was the difference in their power. If she had gotten struck at, she was more than fast enough to dodge it, without being touched at all. And then after, tie this woman up or something.
She knew for sure that Rukia would want to hear this kind of thing too.
Hasenya opened her palm, letting the energy that had been gathering there fizzle out and vanish. She let out a sigh, relieved that she wouldn't be called out on her bluff and blasted to bits. She shook her hand clear of any lingering smoke and sheathed Excalibur away on her back. She had originally thought that the person standing before her might've been Rukia herself, but she could tell that she was quite wrong. So wrong that it was a little bit embarrassing. This was one of those goons she had been shaking her head at the thought of earlier. Or at the very least she thought that would be safe to assume, a lot safer than continuing to assume that she was the same vampire she was looking for. "See it? No. But I think anyone who's seen a blast attack knows what it means when someone with power extends their hands the way you did." Hasenya snorted. Now it might just be that she was seeing things, but this person in front of her looked like she really didn't want to be here, not that Hasenya could blame her. If she didn't see it as important she wouldn't wanna be anywhere near this city right now, either.
"Well see, the full story is a little bit complicated. If you are what I think ya are, and your leader is who I think she might be I'm gonna really need to see her. I don't wanna go risking calling you out in the middle of the street when there might be a set of unfriendly ears, so yeah. Call me paranoid, but I was never a fan of street battles as you can probably already tell." She was a little better at this whole talking thing than she thought she might be. Though she attributed that to the idea that whoever she was talking to now wasn't the big scary leader lady that could put her on her knees with only a commanding glare. Not even a full stare, that's just how confident Hasenya was in how fast she would lose any kind of confrontation. "Main thing is that I need to see your leader. She's got power and I've got information, so I think there's some kind of mutual gain to be had here. I doubt I'm enough of a threat to warrant some kinda interrogation, so y'wanna make this easier on both of us?"
This woman had just dropped her attack when she had, and even put away that sword she only got a glimpse of. It could have been to just get her guard down, but it was only the thought of having to suddenly fight, that was putting her mind on edge. She was so used to being surrounded by power around her own level, she wasn't even sure that if she would be able to hold back, if she was suddenly attacked. It was just a reflex to give it her all.
Lady Rukia had never really failed to tell her and the others, they didn't have to hold back on usually anyone they fought against. The option of just immobilizing them was always there, but just thinking about the idea of being attacked, just took her thoughts back to when she had left her old coven.
It was an uprising and complete slaughter of her old leader, and those who supported him. The stronger Vampire had did most of the killing, but there were moments during the battle, where she and the others had used their own strength to slam faces that they had knew, into trees. They might have all been Vampires, but the way their bodies shook, and then slumped on the ground, she could never forget wondering if that was enough to go kill them.
Stuff that she was supposed to have gotten used to at that point in her life, and still couldn't. Only, rather than being something that was supposed to be hard to watch, she didn't really feel anything. Just thoughts that it was the right thing to do, whenever she actually had to fight someone.
"I could have just been drying my nails."
Another slight twitch in her lips, that would have been a full purse of her lips, around a Vampire. This woman wasn't wrong about her charging an attack, but the way she held out only one hand, and was just sitting around, what she said was also true. Anything to help her own embarrassment.
What she did had actually worked, and because of it, she now knew this woman was probably some kind of hero type. Lady Rukia hated these kinds of people. Whether it was this new queen of earth, or this one hybrid Saiyan with a goatee, that she had met on Namek, but was apparently now here on earth.
The former had an excuse not show up, since she was pretty much banned from being in this city, with the restraining order those two had against each other. But where was the latter supposed to be at? She didn't know what his ki was supposed to feel like, but he was supposed to be barely below a Super Saiyan.
If it had been one of the others dealing with this woman, they probably would have found her fine, just trying to leave the area, if this was what it took to get her out. Why didn't she do that? It would have been away from the wastelands where the other Vampires were gathering towards too.
"You don't get what's going on then."
From the sound of things, this woman was trying to be as subtle as Rukia could, even though the both of them should know, they weren't just humans. West City was supposed to be a safe place for them, what with it being the only city standing and all. And if this woman really knew who Rukia was, shouldn't she also know this place was only around, because of her? It was suspicious. More than she would have really liked to see.
And if she was asking to meet with Rukia, then this woman couldn't also tell that they were in the process of gathering their kind elsewhere. All of them were stationed at each of the cities to gather up every Vampire that was willing to get off the planet, and not risk dying like the humans would.
"Lady Rukia would hate your type, you're not strong enough to have her interest, and we already have two Elemi working for us."
She was only stating the truth, in accordance to everyone else they have ever made a deal with. This woman would have to be the level of a Super Saiyan for the other Vampire to even care, and to ignore her trying to save everyone. The two Elemi they knew, were also kind of a combo deal.
But it wasn't really all just an outright refusal. Ignoring everything that she had listed, there was only one thing that could change her view of what was trying to be asked here. And it was hard not having her body lightly shift in movement again, just thinking about how bad it could be.
"Unless you happen to be related or are affiliated with someone she'd consider to be important."
Her eyes narrowed, looking at the woman's face for any resemblance of someone they knew.
"I've only the basic gist of what's going on, honestly. I just don't see the basics as an excuse to go firing blasts off in a street.. Unless you were actually drying your nails, then that'd be embarrassing." Hasenya reached back, rubbing the back of her head and chuckling awkwardly. Kais forbid Tomina of either timeline find out about a little mishap like that, if such a thing were true. She wouldn't ever hear the end of it, even on her deathbed. She could already imagine Tomina making mention of it in such a scenario and it only made her want to die of embarrassment simply imagining it.
When the lady next spoke though, she got a little more serious. Crossing her arms and raising a brow in response to her words. "I didn't ask for her to love me, I asked for her to be willing to work with me. That not how business works?" Related and or affiliated made for a rather broad list of people that Hasenya could whip out and start counting off. And she'd do just that, raising a hand and counting one by one on each finger as she stated names that surely must've rang some bells. It would be easy to whip out the whole long list, but she would much rather keep it short and to the people who's names wouldn't be too questionable to mention. Some of the names she could mention were also ones she had simply heard in stories, similar to how she had heard of Rukia. She wouldn't want to be asked some weird trivia about some someone like Nasu. "Chris, Flare, Tomina. Does actual relation matter, or does assuming it's just an affiliation work for your Lady? There are some bits of information I just would rather not say unless it were to her directly."
This encounter wasn't nearly as dangerous as she thought it was going to be. Already she had jumped the gun a little and was too close to being ready to fight. A fight she surely would have lost, cutting this little quest for universe saving drastically short. Talking to this vampire wasn't too bad, either. They kept it short and simple, while also making sure to add due respect towards Rukia. It would've been admirable, if Hasenya weren't against such things.
