Spikerians
Starting Planet: Free Space
Starting Power: 4800
Appearance:
Spikerians could be described as a well-built people. While they range in size in terms of height, from short to tall, they all tend to be rather muscular and bulky people. Not only notable for their size, they are also recognizable for a series of spiny spikes that typically protrude from their heads and forearms. However some members of this species are known to produce more or less spikes than their peers.
Beyond that, their appearance has several other characteristics. Their skin tone tends to run in several vibrant shapes of colors, such as pinks or purples. This skin also tends to be fairly thick, almost acting as sort of a natural armor. Another of their striking characteristics if their eyes: large eyes that lack irises, and only have small, black pupils.
There is little difference between the sexes of the species, even in the realm of size. It used to be rumoured that the species actually only had one sex, but it has since been confirmed that there are two. The major biological differences are internal, rather than external.
While hybrids of this race are an extreme rarity, they have been documented before. These hybrids tend to run the gamut in-terms of their appearance. Some look more Spikerians than others, but almost all tend to inherit the spikes of their Spikerian relations. The eyes are also a common trait inherited, but the other features are up to chance.
Background:
Their home world, Spinero, is a harsh, wasteland world with a thin atmosphere. Because of this, they are a rather resilient race. And, as another result, they have developed a fierce warrior culture. They value strength over wits, and this is reflected in their society. They have few great works of art: their paintings are crude depictions of legendary battles, their writings are fighting manuals, and their stories are simply retellings of battles past. There is also little technological advancement. They are capable of space flight, like many of the races, but most of their technology is a result of contact with the Kold Empire, and later the PTO.
The Spikerians are currently a part of the PTO. However, they were once a holding of the Kold Empire, back in the day of Frieza, their race was culled and brought to heel by the old tyrant. However, in recent milenia, they have come to a resurgence and are now counted among some of the most skilled warriors in the galaxy. This makes them a prized ally of the PTO, whom they joined after the Brenchians turned against the Kold Demons, for want of better opportunities and more power. What they would do with these newfound powers and opportunities, that was a great wonder, but it seems that they are using them to simply find and place themselves in more conflict.
From an early age, Spikerians are raised to be warriors, not unlike Saiyans. However, unlike Saiyans, they are kept on the homeworld and taught to fight almost as soon as they can walk. Spikerians tend to have large families, and seem to have an increased rate of multiple births. Twins are common, and triplets are not unheard of. And they reproduce quickly; Spikerians young are born in five months, compared to the Earthling gestation of nine months. This is a boon to the Spikerian people, for not all Spikerian young survive the training of their youth. Some die in the basic lessons, but more die in what has become a species-wide custom: an ordeal, which is known as ‘The Breaking’ in Galactic common. During this trial, Spikerians who manage to survive until the age of ten are cast in the wasteland of their dangerous homeworld for two years. There, they must survive against all odds: the elements, beasts that stalk the wastelands, and other Spikerians. If they survive, they are welcome back into their homes as full-fledged warriors.
After this point, many take it upon themselves to join the PTO forces. There they find what drives them: violence and destruction, as they are often assigned to shock troop squadrons. However, many also find themselves work as mercenaries. And some simply become wandering warriors, beholden to no master. Because of their violent nature, they tend to butt heads with the more peaceful and good willed races of the universe, but this is not indicative of the morality of the race as a whole.
On the subject of half-breeds, if any happen to exist, they are put through the same trials as their full-blood relations, assuming they grow up on Spinero. Spikerian society tends to view half-bloods with mixed views. Some see them as weak due to the impurity of their blood, some see this as a potential strength, but almost all will give them respect if they undertake the Breaking.
Unique Characteristics:
Raised For War: Spikerians may begin play with two extra offensive techs. Hybrids get 1.

Transformations:
Inner Strength: A simple power boost, the Spikerian summons all their inner strength and experiences a great surge of strength and energy. [x4]
Super Spikerian: Similar to the previous transformation there are no physical cues to this and it must be triggered by rage. They experience a surge of power, as if their body and muscles are flushed with such a strong ki that it becomes a part of them. If they have the spikes of their race, these spikes also seem to glow. This a state that many Spikerians dream of achieving. [x8 PERM, Requires Minor Rage to be Unlocked] [Requires 60k+]
Mastered Ultra Spikerian: The next step in their power, the Spikerian had learned to reap as much power from their Ultra Spikerian transformation as possible. They have reached a tier of power that is almost comparable to that of the fabled Super Saiyans. [x12 PERM] [Requires 100k+, [ST-1] Ki Suppression]
Goliath Spikerian: Digging deep into their inner well of power, the Spikerian reaches new heights. Literally. In this state, their power grows with their bodies. The Spikerians height increases by roughly a meter and they are more deadly than ever, and their bodies attains a state similar to that of their Ultra Spikerian state. [x24 PERM] [Requires 190k+]
Empowered Goliath Spikerian: The Spikerian had learned how to increase the mass of their body to match their new found height. Their muscle mass grows to impressive bounds and they find themselves to be among the strongest, at least physically, beings in the universe. This transformation, however, is entirely optional. [x28/x24] [Requires 240k+, Requires [ST-1] Bulking.]
Ascended Spikerian: The Spikerian has once again reached a new tier of power. Except this time, they do not grow. In fact, they no longer grow at all. It makes for a deadly controlled power, and the Ascended Spikerian is not to be trifled with. They say a Spikerian in this state has all the marking of your typical Super Spikerian, but a powerful red aura with red lightning sparks. [x32 PERM] [Requires 360k+]
Omega Spikerian: The Spikerian has reached the final echelon of their power. The latent ki that once flooded their muscles cover their entire bodies like a second skin, as if their bodies themselves have become pure power. Their physique is so powerful, entire worlds tremble before them. Only one Omega Spikerian has existed before, and they only existed in legend. They say when the Spikerian that ascended did so, her power was so great that it shook the wasteland planet of Spinero to its core and even people on the opposite side of the planet could feel the tremors. Regardless of whether or not this state is obtainable at all, the Spikerian legends say one thing: it is doom incarnate. [x46 PERM] [Requires 420k+]
