The staff and I were musing with an idea, and we wanted your input on this seeing as it would have a heavy, heavy impact on the site.
So, in coming weeks we will have a new event beginning, and this event will be big enough to get everyone involved, not just the end gamers. However, once this event was done we couldn't help but think "What now?". We definitely realize that Roleplay with the end gamers is intimidating, we've created this world through 3 years worth of RP, and newer members are just scrambling to catch up instead of finding themselves able to enjoy a story and build the world around them. With that in mind, we were thinking of switching Universes 6 and 7. What that means is, Universe 7 would be put into 1 category (Like U6 is now), and all the U6 forums would be brought out and become the main site.
This way, U7 continues as normal, but the main focus of the site would be Universe 6. As such, I think that might be more appealing to new members once we start advertising again in the new year. This isn't a decision staff would make on their own, so we want to hear from you guys! We want to answer your questions and alleviate any concerns
I'll have to write a more indepth response later as I'm on mobile atm, but I do think that switching the two universes up would only put a bandaid on the problem- there would still be the people who invested far more time and work into U6 than others as time passes, and newbies who feel like they have to catch up. This would also mean that those who were investing time in u7 would be left in the dust as they have to start from scratch.
Additionally, what would this mean for character slots and how gaining PL thru methods like jeweling and activity checks work? Would the rules remain the same, or is there going to be an adjustment for U6 becoming the new big thing?
Awhile I do think U6 deserves more love, I also wonder how we would encourage existing players to focus on U6 instead of remaining with the U7 characters they're investing in without cutting down on fun- cause currently my own issue with U6 is noone I'm interested in rping with is active on there.
Ok, -cracks knuckles- On computer, can properly write my thoughts. Pardon the double-post, I'm gonna reiterate the thoughts I stated before but also add on some more concerns of mine.
- How is this going to (long-term) fix the power creep between newbies and veterans, and the pressure on newbies to play catchup? As I see it, this is only going to put a temporary bandaid on the problem, without addressing the root of it; give it a year or two and we'll be back at square 1, with people having vastly more powerful characters than newbies. A good example of this is Nakeeya, who is at 65k, Rutaba at 86k, or Demalia - who is at 105k. Though they're older characers who may not be as active anymore, they're still examples of characters who have been around for longer - and thus are already notably stronger than a fresh new character. Additionally, nothing stops their users from picking these characters back up if U6 does pick up traction once more.
- What does this mean for us, mechanically? Will we still be stuck with 1 slot in U6? Will we still be unable to gain PL thru other methods such as jeweling or activity checks? How will the rules change or adjust as we move to U6 - assuming that they change at all?
- How will we encourage people to play U6, as opposed to sticking to U7 for the most part with the ongoing stories and plots and ideas that people have written amongst themselves? A good example of this is the Galactic Patrol deal that I have going on with my other friends in U7 - I myself do not want to just drop this idea so easily, and I want to see how my more experimental character that I've made - Dalion - grows. As much as I would love U6 getting more love and polish, I'm also worried that while switching the universes around may encourage newbies to try U6 first, they'll eventually migrate to U7 if the pre-existing people stick to U7 too once the novelty of the change wears off.
- How will the change in forums be managed? Will specific zones in a given planet be merged to make room, and planets in U6 be expanded upon? Is there any risk of someone possibly losing a thread because of it?
- A lot of what makes U7 so good (in my opinion), is that there is a wide variety of races that you can make use of, many of which that are iconic. It's also not always clear what races are U7 exclusive and what races could be used in U6, especially since some races have their own pages for either universe. Will we be getting a more concise list of what races belong where, and will U6 get as extensive of a list of races as U7 does?
- Though Dragonball at its heart has always been about big beefy dudes duking it out, DBU is in a way its own deal - there's far more focus on story and characters interacting with eachother than fighting, I myself have yet to get into a fight with one of my characters even. Perhaps instead of wiping the slate clean (for lack of a better term,), you could give a little love to newbies and lowbies - throw them a bone, or give alternate ways for people to build PL but still have fun. The Halloween event was a good example of this, in my opinion - the only real downside was that because 1. It's in a planet that wasn't necessarily friendly to everyone, and 2. There were some people caught up in real life stuff, not a lot of people could participate in it. Perhaps more smaller events where characters can interact + there isn't much pressure in fighting would help encourage newbies to relax and just enjoy the forums at their own pace.
Overall though, I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea, at least on paper... Just... An ambivalent idea, and I want to get a better idea of all of this before I automatically ascribe to it. Like I mentioned above, I just feel like this is a temporary solution to a problem you're going to run into anyways, in a forum where there is no real proper upper limit to how strong you can get - and that just because you flipped them around doesn't necessarily mean that people are going to stick to it, beyond maybe for novelty at first.

I'm going to address these concerns Tsuki has brought up bullet point by bullet point. I'm not a huge fan of the whole "big wall of text" thing so I'mma try to keep them as concise as I can.
1) Power Creep. Yes the current scale is technically at a similar issue with Demalia and Rutaba (who are both still active btw... they are the ONLY active RPers in U6 that I see). You have to understand though that it is marginally vastly very different playing catch up to those guys than it is trying to catch up to say Nasu or Koma (who are at God Tiers getting not too far off from a million in base). We don't penalize progress at higher tiers in U6 like we do for U7, because it's still marginally not at crazy power tiers yet. My PERSONAL hope is that eventually we'll get to a point where both Universes are developed enough to have an event somewhere down the line.
If you put in the same effort you have for U7 you'll definitely be able to catch up to Demalia and Rutaba and be able to challenge them, as opposed to U7 where you honestly can grind your ass off and you'll still only barely make it to the mid-tier over time.
2) Obviously this change is going to reverse things. It hasn't been talked about yet but we MIGHT flip everything as far as those mechanics goes. U6 might be the Universe that gets rewards now while U7 doesn't (IDK we haven't talked about it yet). We're still in the development phase of this idea.
3) We are reversing how slots work in U6. U6 will get ALL the slots while U7 will have one. THIS DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR EXISTING CHARACTERS. If you have 5 U7 characters (like I do) then you are not punished for doing so by having them taken away. That would be silly af. Jeweling will not be valid for U6 until it develops to the point that the power levels make 100k not as big a deal (like Demalia reaches 400k or something, then we might start being open to the idea).
4) Keep in mind the difference between U6 and U7 is that U7 has existing characters with their own stories. I can't speak for everyone but a lot of us have things we wanna keep doing with those stories and those characters, but we recognize that we don't have as much content left to offer that is exciting the way U6 can be. If anything U7 has the better chance of surviving this status than U6 does. The whole problem with U6 thus far is that it wasn't the focus, so no one has had any incentive to do anything with it (other than to try and rule over an RP land of nothing). By switching things U6 will get the attention it deserves, and we can begin to have a more fun atmosphere. What I love about Dragon Ball is that we HAVE this option of having two co-existing Universes (and it'll be CANON to do so!)
5) I don't know if you've browsed the Universe 6 forums, but they have just as much in them as U7 does. They're just not on the home page like the U7 ones are. Also I like to think that we're a competent enough staff that us moving forums around shouldn't delete any threads <3
6) 99% of the races you see in U7 have ALWAYS been available in U6. People literally just do NOT ask us when this comes up, and they should. Nonetheless I plan on spending my free time w/ Arlu to write original stuff for all the U6 races (especially if this update is approved). Mechanics will be copy pasted but the lore will be revolutionized to fit a whole new Universe. We'll find a way to bring Earthlings back into U6, however Majins will sadly not be allowed in U6. We're going to leave those as a U7 thing (partially because there is no fair way to balance Majins, and they're still one of the most annoying races in Dragon Ball to handle from a gaming perspective). Pretty much every other canon race (and a few more!) will be available in U6~. So that shouldn't be an issue.
7) Halloween event imo is the worst event we've had for awhile. It was a good idea in concept but our timing with it was not great, and it was very exclusive which was feels-bad for Saiyan RPers (and lonely Demon Kings )
U6 will be getting the focus assuming this is accepted, but I still have stuff planned for U7. It's just reaching a point where all of the stories are personal rather than Universal. The Tournament of Power, and this next event are going to be the last real events we're going to be able to have in U7 for a LONG time. With U6 having the focus for a bit we have a much easier avenue to include EVERYONE in fun rather than the same people at the top getting all the fun...
Basically think of it like this. DBU is an MMORPG. You have the option between two servers (Let's call them U7 and U6).
-U7 is the PVP server filled with End-Gamers that have spent so much time and energy in this game, that it's hella impossible to compete with them, and you know in any PVP event you're just going to get oneshot.
-U6 is the new server that just opened up that's fresh and full of new ideas and potential RP storylines. There are no real end-gamers yet, just a beta tester who's a few levels ahead (but not so much so they can conquer the game yet).
Wouldn't you wanna join the latter rather than the former?
Alright, those are some very fair notions. I still am a little skeptical over the issue of power creep (It sort of raises the question of, what will we do once U6 runs into the same problems U7 has?) though I'm also one of those people who don't worry about PL beyond how a given character might react to someone. Maybe it'd be nice for a character to get stronger, but I also like just having two character concepts interacting with eachother - and even if there are super high-tier characters, perhaps things like an upper limit (or otherwise retiring more powerful characters, at some point?) might help stem it a little?
Overall though, I think I'll wait and see how this all pans out - like I said, it's not a hard no, just a bit of an "hrm" for me - thank you for your time Heizen and I'm sorry for the brainmelt lmao.
It is quite rare of me to divulge my opinion, given the fact that I often do not linger around in the chat or the Discord to actually know what is going on, I often feel confused with the influx of information and the constant changes we face.
However, this, in particular must not be ignored, this is a massive change, for everyone, end gamers, new gamers. Honestly, I do not think this will solve the gap, it is not just about powerlevels, it is not just about end game, it is about our activities and the amount of things we do here.
I think, that what would “fix” things, or at least even the odds it is more arcs, more story related events, not just personal stories, but stories that do not depend on player characters. I have been meaning to say this, but we need villains, we need foes to face, not just pvp but pve too, we need a manace to big to be faced alone by end players, manaces that can be solved without punching our way out of it with PL (although that is not usual it would be nice)
And I think we could do something like the Revival of F movie, where everyone was able to fight, even krillin and Yamcha. So, we do not need exactly change to UN 6, we should focus on writing arcs and stories for the forum, and I am willing to give a hand on that.

Andy I love how into the discussion you’ve gotten. You’ve raised some very good points as well. Before I respond, keep in mind that some things are still under development. We want to make sure to we get everything right, so we’re taking the time to work out all the kinks. Just to avoid confusion, I’m informing everyone that I’m not answering these questions in order.. I prefer to build up to the most substantial things. Also I’m going retread on things Heizen already said as little as possible. With that said, I’m going to get into the nitty gritty of things.
Full Activity checks benefits are most likely going to end up benefiting U6 as opposed to U7. Or it will end up extending to U6 as well as U7. As for Jeweled characters, I think that concept isn’t going to carry over from Universe 7. It’s one of the things on the discussion table.
I’ll be the first one to admit that we dropped the ball on designing and updating U6. We prioritized U7 changes since not that many people RPed in U6. This has led to a bunch of confusion since we didn’t explicitly state that you could play every non-Earth race. To make matters worse, we only listed the new hybrid combinations you could do, and not the ones that were already established. So as you can imagine, there was much confusion to be had. Even some staff members were confused on what was and wasn’t allowed.
We intend to fully update U6 and to make everything as clear as possible. Rest assured players will be able to be as (if not more) diverse in character selection as U7 currently is. We didn’t handle U6 well for the longest of times, but that is going to come to an end soon. Especially if it becomes the main focus.
Now we get to the big stuff. -claps hands and rubs them together- This is one of the most polarizing things about type of RPing in general. The power creep was definitely a major factor in U7. I play both Tomina and Demalia (and some other characters). It is possible for anyone to catch up to most people given enough time and effort.
Let me tell you, spending over a year to get Tomina to where she is without sacrifing story was no picknick. It isn’t something everyone can do, since it means sacrificing a lot of time in order to accomplish this. Not everyone wants to grind in order to the plot they want to do. There are some ideas that can’t be done until you get strong enough. Being an up and coming villain or just a threat in general is especially difficult for newbies. Since they have to deal with established strong characters with lots of resources. It took time and hard work for the older members to get to that point too, as it was with me and Tomina. But it can be a bit discouraging when things are so stacked against you from the start.
With that being said, new RPers have to make their characters and RPing ideas fit within the concept of our RP, and you have to earn your place if you want to majorly impact the main storylines. It wouldn’t have been fair to the longer running members here if I hadn’t put in the time to get to where I currently am. And most importantly, you have to be willing to work with and interact with the RP community. This seems like a no brainer on paper, but a lot of people have tried to prioritize their ideas to themselves entirely. Going into a RP community means giving up a small level of control over your story ideas, since in order to enjoy things to the fullest, you need to shape things to match the setting and work together with others. And that’s the key thing here.
We aren’t just wiping the slate clean and hoping things will get better. We plan on getting more involved and help new members get accommodated into the setting. I agree that there needs to be more ways to help new members not get left behind. Which is part of why we’re shifting the focus to a universe that doesn’t have insanely powerful god form users. It’s easier to help newer members get into the thick of things if the end game isn’t a long way off. I want to make it easier for newbies then it was for me.
U7 becoming less of a focus doesn’t mean that plots will die out. If anything it will make things easier for newer members. This next event is meant to bring about the conclusion of the main storyline that has been going on the site since it’s conception. Once it ends, the strong characters will take a much less active roll, since they will keep to themselves with everything resolved. Which gives newer members the opportunity to catch up to them if they want to do universal scale things in U7. And for those who don’t want to do that, it allows for them to RP out their ideas freely without having to worry about the end gamers. In short, U7 will benefit from this as much as U6 Will, as it will allow people to play with different ideas easier. No one will lose their threads and you’ll be able to continue RPing in U7 without interruption.
This is a tricky thing to tackle. Everyone has their own preferred style of writing and RPing. Some want to get into the thick of the actions. Others want to be doggos who smell the roses. There are people who like writing darker stories, and those who like writing more outlandish ideas just for the fun of it. Some like to fight a lot while others care about story. Balancing all that is hard sometimes.
But I assure you that we will do all that we can to make sure that the powercreep won’t take away from the experience like it ended up doing in U7 originally. The key here is communication and involvement, from new members and veterans alike. I believe getting a little more hands on will help people settled in. Other ways of getting stronger besides fighting will be employed. We will have more events and opportunities like the Halloween event.
Houri We are doing more events as of late, and will continue to do so to give more members opportunities to get involved, regardless of how strong they are. In fact, what you described is going to be covered by the next event we have planned. It’s a big threat that the end gamers cannot deal with on their own. Everyone will get a crack at it. This has been in the works for quite some time, and all the details have recently been finalized.
Changing the main focus to U6 will allow for players to shape things easier in addition to the increased level of events we will plan out. As we have said before, this doesn’t invalidate people’s stories in U7. It allows people to do more without the big powers doing things like blowing up Earth. Which was a pretty big mess during the ToP arc, since we had new members coming in right when Earth blew up. By slowing things down in U7, it will make it easier for newer members to get situated no matter which universe they choose to start in.
There will be events in U7 still from time to time for everyone to get involved in. We’re simply shifting focus to a universe that is less developed and thus easier for new members to shape, while at the same time making it easier to get involved in U7. We aren’t just tossing U7 to the side. We’re simply making it easier for weaker members to do their own ideas while at the same time drawing more focus to a fresh new setting.
We’ve also been steadily adding more mechanics for gaining PL easier for weaker members and making changes to help with all the problems discussed here. Some are more out in the open like the planetary bonuses that are given out. Others are more in the shadows, such as a recent change to the grading system. I know that you want to know as much as possible about what we will do to make things work.
We have been working on this for a long time and will continue to do so. We can’t tell regular members certain things as staff though. If you have any more questions or suggestions, don’t be afraid to speak up. I love that people came and voiced their opinions on this. ^^
