Batt had acknowledged that there would be prices to pay when one took up a life of petty theft and pickpocketing. But for her, the habit had gotten straight outta hand. She'd used to just take cans of beans or loads of bread of the sheer shake of survival as a human, but with those days long gone, there was only a need, a habit, to fulfil. Batt had taken something rather expensive, like quite expensive, like very very expensive. She'd manage to nab a pearl necklace with a diamond encrusted into the middle of it. It was beautiful, it was one of the most breath taking Batt had ever seen and by Kami almighty she had to have it.
She'd manage to scare the shopkeeper away for a few good minutes by turning into a Batt, causing the poor woman to panic and retreat into the back of her shop as she went to retrieve what Batt suspected was a broom. This give Batt heaps of time to open the lock using pick and a bobby pin from the glass case and grab it just as the sirens went off. The doors to the store where quick, but not quick enough as Batt snuggly squished herself out as they shut quickly behind her, the loud ringing in the background.
Batt was sprinting by this point, down the street and making a turn into the alleyways as she used the shadows to her advantages. She would loop in and out of the dark corners that twisted around the city buildings not even bothering to look back, feeling she was home free by this point!
The vampire kept running till she reached a more open area by this point, no one had seemly bothered her and no one had seemly caught into what she had done... Yet..
Batt gave a smug smile as she pulled the shining necklace from her shirt pocket, stroking it like Smeagol holding the Ring.
"Batt worked very hard for this! Very hard! Batt be proud of self! ...Batt also hope no one look at Batt suspicious thought..." She whispered as she began to note, hiding the item back in her pocket as she started to stroll off quickly, look around to see if anyone has seen her.
The past few days had certainly been interesting for Ranon, as she walked the streets. When she first came to this planet, she had met three people - a space cop, a gem person, and a half-demon girl. They had seemed pretty pleasant, and Ranon found them a welcome first-impression of the planet overall, when she had talked to them. Once she had been pointed in the right direction and set off, she had next met a strange Saiyan individual - he was a little difficult to talk to, even by her usual standards! Though he didn't seem too bad otherwise, even if she was still unsure of him. And now, well...
She would be shapeshifted in her humongaloid form when the sound of a ringing alarm from not too far away drew her attention, and she saw a young-looking girl run past her in what seemed to be a hurry, stuffing something into her pocket. At first, Ranon was unsure what to make of this, watching as the young girl slipped away into an alleyway... Though when an angry shopkeep had ran roughly in the girl's direction - albeit completely overlooking the alleyway - shouting up a storm, Ranon would blink as the pieces came together. A thief, she supposed? Well, that might be a nice way to pick up a small handful of zeni for herself, if she caught the thief...
Ranon would make her way down the alleyway after the girl, relying on her ability to sense Ki to navigate and track her thru the winding paths and shadows of the alleyway. She had noted that the girl's ki was stronger than the average individual, which meant that it was easy to pick her out among the other signatures in the area. In fact, Ranon would decide to take to the air for this 'hunt' - her ingrained instincts finding a thrill in tracking something down. Only those with similar hunter's instincts would understand, the way it felt to track down and catch something... Though, of course, Ranon would shake her head a little and temper down these instincts - she was just looking for a petty thief, not a criminal or prey. And she seemed like just a young girl, even if she was stronger than the average person!
Regardless though, Ranon would be perched on a nearby building as she watched the young girl reach a more open portion of the alley streets. The ankoku-turned-humongaloid watched as the girl pulled something - shiny and glittery - out of her pocket, admiring it before putting it back away. As she began to stroll off to leave though, Ranon would take this as her cue to jump down from the building, landing just ahead of Batt. Though her ki before was suppressed to a reasonable level, as to blend in amongst the crowd, it was slowly rising...
"Not so fast, kiddo." Ranon grinned slightly - sharp teeth visible - in Batt's direction, hands shoved in her pockets. That was a thing humans did, right? "What do you think you're doing stealing like that, hm~?" By now, Ranon's visible power level was matching Batt's - though she let it rise a little further before stopping. She didn't want to necessarily scare the kid - just show that she wasn't someone she wanted to be fighting.
Suppressed to 1,000 PL at start, gradually rises to 6,500 PL. Shapeshifted into a Humongaloid.
Batt would "breath" in as she turned to face the tall, long, msulcar female figure before her, ah, well... So she had been caught... That's cool, that's fine, Batt has go this in the bag! The old, rotting, hole-covered bag! She give a sheepish green at the tall lady, fangs bared in a squeamish tone as she put her hands behind her back. "Baaaatt... Need item for... Batt need it for... Uhh.." She was quick to look around for a distraction, watching a bird flew by in the distance. Batt seemly lost completely and utterly awareness for a second, watching as the white move, Batt lost in the moment before snapping back into reality.
"Batt... Has... Sick.. Flappy,, Yes! Batt has sick flappy! Very sick flappy and Batt very, very poor! So, Batt need shiny to buy drugs for flappy, so flappy's feather stop falling out! Very, very sad, Batt so young and little and would get very upset if flappy where to die, would giant woman won't that? For Batt to feel sad cause Batt couldn't get meds for Flappy???" She was completely and utterly bullshitting her point by this, just rambling for the sake of it.
"...Also Batt find shiny very very pretty, so pretty... Pretty Shiny..."
Ranon would blink for a second at the strange young girl, tilting her head and seeming faintly perplexed as she watched Batt get completely distracted by a passing bird. It was a little hard to believe that this girl could steal something like that and get away with it - at least if it weren't for herself - but well... The proof was in the... Whatever humans said; she'd overheard it once, but didn't quite hear the last bit of it and wasn't about to fill in the blank. Anyhow though... when Batt began bullshitting up a story for why she stole the necklace, Ranon's expression changed from perplexed to a bit bewildered, then amused.
"I'll give you points for improv and effort, but I don't think anyone's gonna fall for that story. Especially with the 'shiny' bit at the end, there." Ranon mentioned with a faint chuckle, and would step forward to Batt- moving to try and take a hold of her arm with a firm grip. "C'mon kid; 'Flappy' or not, stealing ain't gonna get you anywhere. Where's your parents at?" She figured that she'd get the stolen goods back to their rightful owner, then let this girl's parents decide what the consequences of going around stealing stuff would be; a safe bet since she was still somewhat unfamiliar with the justice system around here, beyond the basics of 'don't do the bad stuff'.
Batt face would sharpen at the mention of parents, she didn't really like bring the topic up, it was confusing and almost, painful for her. She never knew her parents, she never really knew any family, even if they had been alive or dead. She almost felt, angry? Mad? That this person had asked, but, Batt felt the large woman hadn't intentionally tired to hurt her feelings, she was just naturally assuming from Batt's young looks and behaviour. Which, really wasn't anything new, Batt didn't really need to mention she was a vampire anyways, not unless it comes up. "Batt.. Does not have parents, Batt raised in orphanages and foster homeses, never knew mom, never knew dad... But, Batt doesn't care anyways, Batt doesn't need parents! Batt own friend!" She said proudly, she tone picking up from soft to proud. While Batt's naturally instinct was to tighten up at the sight of being touched, but from what Batt could tell the big woman felt more powerful then her, and she really wasn't looking for a fight.
While her hands where now tight around the necklace, she knew she'd probably need to give it back despite her best wishes, which was a shame really... It was such a pretty shiny...
At Batt's reaction, and her declaration of not having any parents to name, well... Ranon would blink for a second, before scratching the back of her neck with her free hand a bit awkwardly. "Well, shit." She'd remark a bit regretfully; before wincing at herself, realizing she probably shouldn't be cursing around the kid. "Sorry about that, kiddo; didn't realize it." She'd remark, glancing down to Batt as she began walking at a casual pace, gently tugging on Batt's arm to get her to walk alongside her. "Though that does raise a question of whether I should hand you over to the authorities or not; you're still a kid, after all." If people always got off for these things scot-free, it wouldn't teach them anything - they'd just do it again and again. But Ranon also didn't feel that just tossing this kid to whatever sort of cops this planet had was necessarily right, either. She'd sigh a bit, and run her free hand thru her hair, eyeballing Batt for a second.
"Why'd you want to steal that necklace so badly anyways?" She asked after some thought, supposing it wouldn't hurt to make some conversation. "I'm sure there's plenty of 'shiny' things that you could buy with some pocket change or whatever."
Batt would huff at being toed along but her small size and lower PL, she wasn't one to stop or argue with Ranon. "Batt... Take your apology, you cannot get into Batt's head, did not know." Batt shrugged, her rather broken English yet rather thick polish-like accent becoming more apparent. "Batt... Has no home to return to, Batt without home, Batt live on street, so, Batt need to steal to live, to breath, for food and shelter, does not steal to make others sad, only to survive.." This was rather a twisted truth but not all wrong, while she didn't have a use for human money could maybe get her better food then rats and coons, both where naturally disgusting to eat and made her feel mentally unwell, like shit really. Not to mention sleeping in a cardbox got old very quickly and she needed basically items such as clothes of course. "Can take to copos if want, but probably have no idea what to do with Batt." She shrugged.
"...Batt will admit to have... Sticky-fingers... Sometimes though, sometimes takes shiny for food and clothes, sometimes take shiny to look at, keep, make own shiny precious." Batt muttered, scratching her face with her free arm.
Ranon quirked her lips at this. Being an orphan on the streets, well... It certainly wasn't fun, to put it simply, and it was reasonable that someone would resort to stealing to get by. It made her think a bit about herself, and how she had to steal sometimes to get by when she was still a hatchling. Though that was a little different from this - especially so when Batt admitted to her sticky fingers problem. "What started as a necessity became a habit, I suppose." Ranon remarked thoughtfully - mostly to herself. Of course, this was all assuming that Batt was telling the truth, but well... Considering the impressions she'd gotten of Batt, and the girl's mannerisms, Ranon was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She didn't exactly seem like she would be able to lie quite that elaborately.
As they stepped out onto the street, beginning to walk back towards the small store that Batt had stolen from, she'd speak up "Sending you back out onto the street emptyhanded isn't exactly gonna kick the habit, I'd think; though... Hm.." She trailed off for a second as a thought occurred to her, but well... It was something she would want to give some consideration before she went through with the idea.
Instead, she'd glance up as she noticed a few cops out in front of the shop further down the street, talking to the shopkeep - likely getting their side of the story. She'd pause in her steps then; clearly thinking something over, and glancing down to Batt.
Bat would blink as she watched the taller woman, she'd seem to figure Batt's whole shtick pretty easily, meaning she was probably pretty smart! Something Batt would need to take note of. Her stealing had once been to live, and in a way, they still where! But there was also a feeling of sentiment theses item brought, and while she would never admit over her already cold, dead, body, loneliness was often one of the reasons Batt stole so much, hoarding all this junk meant room.. Sharing room, with someone, something, and everyone coped differently with certain things, yes?
Batt guessed from her pause, and look, she was thinking of something, maybe a plan? Batt wondered what Ranon was even going to do in this situation cause Batt sure as hell didn't. "...Batt is not sure what tall woman thinking but Batt would like in one brain ideas please uh.."
"...Tall woman..." ..Nailed it?
"...Batt does no know tall woman name, will tall woman please give name? Batt suspected you are not really called tall woman, that be very silly, silly idea." Batt paused for a second, maybe her name was tall woman? Who was Batt to judge, though also, who was Batt to know?
As Batt spoke up, Ranon would blink, before laughing gently. "Only ever being called 'Tall Woman' might be amusing, but nah, that isn't my name. You can call me Ranon." She'd introduce herself, continuing "And I'd assume by the way you talk, that your name's Batt?"
Ranon would scratch the back of her head a bit, still thinking a second, before finally mentioning "Honestly, what I'm thinking of right now is something we'll have to discuss later, and it's probably a bit harebrained of me..." She admitted to begin - grinning to Batt a bit sheepishly. "Though frankly, you're kind of an endearing kiddo - you make me think of myself when I was younger."
"But for right now, if you're willing to play along with me, I'll pretend to be your parent or guardian or whatever - whatever you're more comfortable with - that's caught you redhanded. We march up there, have you apologize and return the necklace - a genuine apology if you could - and I imagine if I make enough of a fuss about letting me handle whatever consequences there are, the cops'll let us go and we can discuss the other thing I was pondering. Sound good to you?" She didn't want to put Batt in an uncomfortable situation, given how she reacted to being asked about parents before - but usually the local authorities were willing to let parents or guardian figures dole out punishments instead, from what she has seen before. Thus, she wanted to check in with Batt first before they went through with anything.
"Yes! Batt is Batt!" She confirmed, watching as Ranon gave her own name. "Hmm.. Rannan..? Ronon..?" Batt paused for a second, trying to get the spelling of the name under wraps before just giving up entirely and defaulting to which she'd usually do, nicknames. "I... Call you Ranran for short? Sound good? Batt think that sound good! Ranran it is!" She blabbed not even letting the poor woman chime in.
As Ranon brought the plan up, Batt would nod enthusiastically. To her, this plan was clearly genius and nothing to go wrong with bat by her side! She was natural born genus and actor after all! She didn't really mind if Ranon prtended to be her mother or whatever, this idea means Batt could get off basically scotch free and make a new friend! What else could one ask for really? Batt would pat Ranon's lower back, for whatever she could reach smugly, like a dog who'd brought the ball back. "You, my good friend have a very smart plane indeed, should work fine! Just maybe look more like Batt? Or maybe say Batt adopted? Batt feel copo have very big trouble believing unless adopted or look bit more like Batt.." Batt shrugged, leaving it up to what Ranon wanted to to with herself.
Ranon would blink at Batt, before laughing and nodding. "Ranran it is," She agreed - reaching over to ruffle Batt's hair. "And looking more like you won't be a problem..." She'd grin as she focused for a second - changing her hair and eyes to match Batt's colors, and adjusting her own features a little as well. Once she was sure she looked close enough to Batt to pass as her mother, the grin widened a hair as she added "I got a few tricks up my sleeve, to say the least - but we'll talk more about that later. For now, lets get this necklace back to the shopkeep, and make sure you stay out of trouble - follow my lead, kay?"
Once all that was figured out though, she'd carefully grip Batt's arm, before marching on up. The shopkeep would notice their approach, and almost immediately she would grow riled, pointing towards Batt and glancing to the two cops. "That's her, the one I was talking about, she's the one that stole the necklace!" The woman stated, and Ranon would take this as her cue to speak up- putting on an exasperated tone. "Yes, I'm very sorry for my daughter -" She'd begin with a heavy sigh, "One would think that I taught her better manners than this, but I could never believe the habits she's picked up! It's safe to say that she's going to be in big trouble when we get home." With this, Ranon would glance down to Batt, giving her a gentle nudge in the shopkeep's direction - "Go on now," She prompted, "Return the necklace and tell this nice lady you're sorry."
Batt would give a nod and an even bigger smile at Ranon shapeshifted into something more aliking to her. It was just like one big, big Batt!! She clapped her hands and giggled when she did it but gave a cough as she calmed herself into a more calmer look. Batt followed Ranon along as she grabbed her arm and walked forward, Batt making sure to poof her hair up a bit more, making her hairs completely covered, she used a bit of shapeshifting two, making sure her fangs where out of plain sight, she was playing a child after all! Not Batt!
Batt expression shifted into that of guilt and sadness as they came closer to the lady, Batt not even being able to make eye contact with the her as they approached. As Ranon talked she was share her gaze between her "mother" and the shopkeeper, her frowning only increasing. As Ranon give a small push near the lady, Batt would speak up, trying her best to hide her accent. "Ba-I... Uh..." She shly looked away, but pulled the necklace out of her pocket and put it in the woman's hands. "...Am.. I am so sorry for taking your necklace Miss, it was a terrible and childish thing to do..." She apologised, slowly making eye contact with the cranky storekeeper as she spoke.
The shopkeeper - though definitely annoyed still - seemed a little surprised at Batt's apology and the return of the necklace; perhaps she had been expecting the supposed delinquent that barged in to be more stubborn about all of this? She'd stammer for but a moment - seemingly having difficulty finding her words - before she'd finally speak up once more. "And if it was so terrible, why do it in the first place??" She'd almost shout, continuing "You need to be taught some consequences for your actions!"
Ranon, in reaction to this, seemed to grow a hair protective, and looked as though she was about to speak up, pulling Batt a little closer to herself. The two cops would step in then though - one of them approaching the woman to try and get her to calm down, while the other glanced to Batt and Ranon.
The cop in question would sigh a little, scratching the back of his head. "Frankly, it seems everything here's in order now, if the necklace has been returned and noone's been hurt. Though..." He'd glance down to Batt in particular now, and would cross his arms a bit. "This can't be a regular thing now, miss. If we have to get a call about you again, your mother isn't the only one you're going to be in trouble with. Understand?" His tone was stern, it was clear that he was taking it easy on Batt cause he thought her a child, though otherwise wasn't going to take any bullshit if this was going to be reoccurring issue. The shopkeeper in the background seemed to huff and storm back into the shop, necklace in hand, while the second cop scratched the back of his head a little - murmuring "Some people..." to himself.
Batt will tilted her head as the lady walked away, she was tempted to stick her tongue at her, but that wasn't going to solve anything. As the cops talked she just stood there, looking at the floor. Batt was glad theses people feel for it! She wasn't even that young, Batt was turned at 16! Not 13! And theses silly cops sill brought it! To really keep this bullshit train coming Batt will wrap her hand around her "mothers" hands, pulling it down and looking to another side of the street, indicating the "child" wanted to leave the situation as soon as possible.
Batt would take Ranon slowly but carefully just, fare enough away from the police so they couldn't hear them talk. "Ranran genius! Plan walk perfect! Sillos fell for it!" She whispered in a giggle."Very good at being fake Mom, believe very hard, did not expect anything even once!" She laughed softly, looking back at the cops and the shopkeeper's store. "Batt did not like ladykeeper though, Batt understand, that Batt did wrong, but very mean, very mean indeed, Batt thinks she's need to learn manners." Batt huffed, glaring at the window of the shop, hoping to never see her again.
