It seemed like a regular day for the mechanical saiyan as she walked through the green forest. The sun was shining through the leaves, a light breeze was blowing and the animals that frequented the area were all very much awake and lively. Walking down a path she frequented in the forest was the saiyan in question. Diane. She had just woken up about half an hour ago, and was on one of her daily walks. Normally, she'd follow the landmarks she made to a lake near the centre of the forest that she visited often. She planned to visit a couple of her friends there, since they had all agreed to establish the lake as one of their 'meeting spots'. They would've gone to The Capital to meet up, but Diane had grown bored of seeing the same buildings, same streets, same everything. It all eventually grew dull. Diane was able to convince her friends to meet in the Outlands, mutually agreeing that they wanted something different. Of course, this would change, as in the future they will start meeting up at The Capital once more, repeating the cycle.
The robotic teen walked down the path, smiling to herself. She always loved hanging around her friends, especially one named Arti, a heavy set 17 year-old with knack for cynicism and sarcastic quips. As she walked on, however, she began to feel tired, and her smile drooped slightly. In a flash, a thought came to her mechanical brain.
Why the hell am I walking?! I'm a saiyan, dammit!
Diane bent her knees slightly, then began to float in the sky. Once she was high enough, higher than the trees, she released her pinkish aura like an afterburner, soaring through the sky at incredible speed. However, not even a couple seconds passed before she began veering towards the floor of Sadala, her aura diminishing.
"Woahwoahwoahwoahwoahwoah!"
Her arms were being thrown about wildly, as she fell towards the ground. Hitting the ground with little grace, she slid on the ground for a while before knocking into a tree, letting an audible groan escape her mouth.
"Augh, my head... What happened? Wait a minute...."
She immediately facepalmed when she realized what an idiot she'd been when she performed that stunt. She was an android. She wasn't capable of flying properly until she got her jets installed into her feet. She sighed as she picked herself up, dusted off her clothing, and trudged on. Eventually, she began running at high speeds in order to reach her friends. Once again, she grinned as she ran, wind knocking into the trees as she ran by. The trees did provide a slight hindrance, but Diane only saw that as a challenge. She liked being challenged. As she zig-zagged through the forest, she could feel herself getting closer.
Like the typical combat android that he was, Banza scoured planet Sadala like a drone looking for someone to put in their place if they were disrupting the peace or causing issues. It was rare that he actually had to do anything like that, though. Aside from the moments of disruption where he dealt with bandits, raiders or the odd criminals thinking that coming to Sadala was a good idea, he pretty much just stared and memorized the terrain of this planet. Not that he minded it, he had no capacity to mind.
While it wasn't exactly apart of his job description, he did take time to investigate things that got him curious when he wasn't doing anything. It would be safe to say that today would be that day the moment he saw something strange in the corner of his eyes. His sensor sweep that picked up power levels nearby kept pouring out over the region and yet, this flying being had no feeling coming from it. Not a single blip of energy came to him.
As an android himself, he knew that his sensors weren't capable of picking up Ki-less beings like himself, he needed a scouter for something like that. But, he never actually saw another one before. And now? One was floating- or, it wasn't. Staring at this unidentified object plummet out of the sky, Banza stopped in his tracks and changed his trajectory towards its last known location, pushing off the sky like the ground to propel himself in that direction.
This other being was grounded, so he'd have to adopt a similar strategy by flying low to the ground into the forest below, searching for where this other unsenseable force went.
Soon enough, Banza was able to make out the visage of this other being as he caught up to it zig-zagging around, Banza blinking at the seemingly erratic movements it was making. Was it running from something and trying not to get hit? As a combat android, nothing really stood out to him other than that possibility. He had a lack of understanding when it came to emotions, so once he was finally able to land behind this sprinting android, he'd make his way a bit closer before finally speaking up.
"You seem to be running from something. Are you in any imminent danger? Perhaps the Defense Force could extend its services?" Banza spoke in his flat, monotone voice that he always used as he tried to keep up with the runner. He... couldn't exactly do much more than that as he just dropped out of nowhere to talk to them, and he could hardly say that he came over to talk to them out of just concern for if they were in danger, that happened after he caught up. Diane kept running quickly through the forest, dodging any and every tree or obstacle that dared to stand in her way. She grinned as she sped through the forest, enjoying her little trip. However, she would soon have other things to do, as she heard a voice coming from behind her. Skidding to a halt, she whipped around with bright, wide and curious blue eyes. She was taken by surprise, by someone without a ki signature....
Hold up.... Why can't I sense his energy, could he be....
She arrived to two different conclusions. Either this man was suppressing his ki signature, or he was another being of mechanical origin. The man seemed concerned for her well-being as he was wondering if she was escaping from something or someone. Diane was taken aback for a moment or two as she attempted to figure out whether this man was a robot or not.
"Er.... Thanks, but no thanks. See, I wasn't running away from anything. I was just going to meet a couple friends at a meeting point we set up. And.... Uh, the reason why... I was running like that is, cause.... Uhm... It was fun."
As she tripped over her words, she struggled to explain why exactly she was zig-zagging. It was hard to explain her versions of fun to other people as they were questionable.
As she finished speaking, her mouth formed into her signature smile as she began to ask the man a couple questions of her own.
"Are you an android? Where'd ya come from? Are you a resident of Sadala? Or just visiting?"
She was genuinely curious as to who or what this man was. Maybe she could make a new friend. He seemed friendly enough. Diane didn't mind keeping her friends waiting. They've done it before and they will do it again.
Seeing the other being stop, Rutaba floated up into the air to more properly stop himself, landing back down by them carefully so as to not disturb the area. He wasn't used to people struggling to talk like this, if it wasn't for the fact that she had explained herself clearly, he'd be even more sure that she was in distress.
"I see... fun you say? I suppose I couldn't comprehend such a prospect." Banza spoke, his eyes slowly gliding in the direction that they had come from. There didn't seem to be anything in chase... perhaps this fun was genuinely how she felt. "Well, if you were just going to meet up with some friends, and run like that for fun... I suppose I am holding you up for nothing, my apologies." the androids monotone voice continued as he looked back towards this other supposed android.
That would be where he should leave... if coming here to make sure she wasn't being chased was his only reason for following. But Banza's curiosity was getting the better of him and he couldn't help but stay for at least the time being. Banza wouldn't be the first to ask the question in his mind, however, it would actually be this person he was meeting that initiated.
"I am an Android, yes. But my name is Banza even if I am an Android, I will not be swayed from admitting it even if I have been seen as a monstrosity for being an android before." Banza spoke coldly remembering back to his run-in with a Saiyan who practically wanted him dead just for being an Android. He shook his head trying to regain himself to answer more. "I actually am an honorary member of the Defense Force, Sadala will always be my home but I was made by others off-world, that was before I was activated so I have no memory of the creators." Banza continued on speaking as accurately as he could about where he came from and how he was living on Sadala basically indefinitely.
Now that their own side was finished, Banza felt like asking questions of his own, but he'd wave her in the direction she was heading for the time being. "How about we walk to your destination while we chat. Can even run if you want, I can keep up." taking a pause, the android gathered himself to get ready to move on should she take him up on moving forward. "What about yourself? I couldn't feel your energy and got immensely curious... I've never actually met another android before, are you one too?" he'd question with a bit of curiosity in his otherwise cold tone. WC: 450 TWC: 917
The man would reply to her first question, confirming her former suspicions.
Ah, so you are an android. I thought so.
The man didn't stop there, however. He went on to inform the mechanical lady that his name was 'Banza', and inform her vaguely about a time he was considered a "monstrosity" by someone. Diane felt upset for a brief, sudden moment that was gone almost as quickly as it appeared. Diane didn't think that this man should be discriminated if he was an android. Everyone was... different, yes, but she didn't think that Banza deserved that, despite only knowing him for only a minute.
"Aw, I'm sorry to hear that."
Banza went on to explain that he was a part of Sadala's Defence Force, being the mechanical being he was, he was apparently built off-planet, but never met his creators. Diane listened attentively, still intrigued by the fact that she was talking to another android. Banza even suggested that they continue their conversation while heading into the direction she was formerly running towards. A smile appeared on her face as he finished his sentence.
"Really? Alright then let's keeping going!"
As they began to walk in the direction Diane's friends were, Banza returned the first question she had thrown at him, asking if she was an android like himself.
"Sure am! I've never met another android myself, it's super cool to see one in person! See, I used to be a Saiyan, until I had to be turned into an android. While I have been told that this robot body couldn't access that Super Saiyan transformation I've heard so much about, it does feel awesome!"
At this point in time, they were just arriving at the lake, finally Diane encountered her friends. Four Saiyans sat on the edge of the water body, conversing with one another. Two males and two females. They were all talking to each other until Diane interrupted them.
"Hey, y'all! How's it hanging?"
"Diane! How long were you planning to keep us waiting? I'm about to die of old age!"
The one who spoke was Arti, a rather tall Saiyan male and one of Diane's favourite people.
"Eheh, sorry to keep you waiting."
"Hey, Diane who's your new friend?"
The girl began to pick herself up, approaching Banza and Diane.
"Oh, this is my new friend, Banza."
Despite just meeting him recently, Diane already considered Banza as one of her friends, since her first impression of him was positive.
"Well, hiya Banza. My name is Choki."
As the messy haired Saiyan introduced herself to the male android, Diane made a hand motion, signaling to her friends to introduce themselves.
"Name's Arti, nice to meet you, I'm guessing you're an android as well, huh?"
Arti offered a handshake to the man as he spoke. Still seated, Diane's two other friends introduced themselves without attempting to stand.
"Hi, my name is Fannah."
"And you can call me Silver."
While the long haired girl spoke while keeping eye-contact, Silver continued to gaze into the depths of the lake, skipping stones on the surface of the lake.
Meeting a real android face to face was a bit surreal, and if Banza could feel more advanced emotions maybe he'd even be incredibly happy at this chance encounter. But as it was he was... satisfied. Satisfaction was a nice way to put the ease he felt knowing that he wasn't the only android wandering around this planet doing things. There was one difference, though, it seemed she was one of the androids made from the conscious of a person that came before. Banza, on the other hand... well, he didn't know what was up with him. As far as he was concerned he was fully robotic.
The topic of something called the Super Saiyan would get the attention of the android even more though. "I haven't heard much about that transformation... I just know of the King obtaining it long before I was created. Is it something that Saiyan's have fascination in achieving?" he mused, not really sure on if the form was all that it was cracked up to be. She didn't seem to mind all too much though.
As the scenery changed to the lake that this woman's friends were hanging out at, Banza's sensors immediately sent across to feel for the four they were meeting up with. His eyes were extremely robotic in their reactions, slowly gliding to follow along with the movements of any who came close to them.
He didn't really need to introduce himself, now that Diane had done it for him, learning her name handily by her friends referring to her before his very eyes. He perked up a bit as he was called a friend twice, not really understanding. Wasn't a friend someone you felt a mutual bond with? Banza didn't have any friends to his recollection, he had never interacted with anybody beyond a single day before! Even his squadmate barely kept in contact with the android while they were separated on separate planets. But perhaps he was looking far too deep into it? "Friend...?" he muttered softly almost like he was confused. Of course, he didn't dislike any of these people, he just didn't have much of a prospect of friendship. Being called one was so foreign.
His thought process snapped away shortly after, staring at Choki more directly as she introduced herself, receiving a soft smile and wave. "Greetings, Choki." Banza kept it short and sweet, turning to Arti immediately after. "Arti... you happen to be correct, I am a Combat and Suppression Android to be exact." he'd smile to Arti now, taking him up on the handshake before looking to the last two friends that he had yet to be acquainted with.
"Fannah and Silver, got it. Nice to meet all of you." seeing as he got a full introduction from Diane's friends, Banza turned to look at Diane directly. "You have such a colorful group of friends." he'd continue on to remark in a softer tone than usual, smiling to himself as he went back to looking at the four Saiyans.
There was definitely a dynamic between all of them, this was probably a group of friends formed from bonds created over months if not years. Perhaps that added onto why he felt so out of place, adding himself into a meet-up between people who all knew one another whilst he could only recount the last short while as anything. Not wanting to just keep to himself, however, he decided he'd keep prodding a bit. Perhaps it would lead to him being shooed away if he was too much of a nuisance but he was still interested. "So, what is it that you all do out here? This is quite a nice meeting spot." he'd question them all, making the first step to try and earn whatever 'friend' title he had been given so suddenly. WC: 639 TWC: 1556
"It is, isn't it? Well, while we don't do anything too special, we do like the relative peace and quiet."
Arti glanced at the peaceful, dark-bluish lake for a couple seconds before continuing.
"Normally, we just sit here and jibber-jabber for anything and everything that could come to our minds. We often spar with each other, or come up with some stupid game whenever chatting gets old. Y'know, average stuff."
As Arti was explaining all this to Banza, Diane approached the two with a smirk plastered onto her face. Diane had caught on to the fact that the android she had met before was almost incapable of experiencing complex emotions, being the complete android he is. Although he must be able to feel something if he had somewhat shown seemingly genuine concern for her when they first met. Diane had only known the man for a couple minutes and yet she already felt a sort of connection sparking between them. Of course, it wasn't the bond two friends felt after getting to know each other well, but, it was a start. Besides, whenever she met someone face to face, she was quick to judge, and Banza appeared to be acceptable for the time being. With a hand placed on her hip, she addressed the other android.
"Hey, Banza, I realized your tone changed. Have you ever had an actual friend in your life? If not, we wouldn't mind becoming your friends."
She said all this based on Banza's brief confusion after being called a 'friend'. Diane assumed that 'friendship' was a foreign term to the android. Suddenly, Arti spoke up.
"Say, Diane, how long have you known him for? I'm led to believe you just stumbled along him and exchanged a couple words, and now your friends? While it seems a little far fetched, nothing seems impossible for you, crazy girl."
Diane threw a playful smile at the taller Saiyan and threw a punch at his shoulder. Arti recoiled, holding onto his shoulder.
"Dammit, Diane, have ever heard of moderation?"
"Nah. Anyways, sure, I've only met him for a couple minutes, but so what? He's not a bad guy, trust me."
"I never said that we couldn't be friends, it's just that I would probably wait a little longer than 5 minutes to call someone I've recently met a friend."
"Oh, hush, Arti. Why don't we go talk to the others?"
As the day went on, each saiyan shared stories of their past to the male android. Most of them being wacky mishaps, or tales of how they met one another. Arti talked about the times dumb stuff happened in the café he used to work in, Choki told about that one time she went off Planet Sadala, Fannah explained the storyline of her adolescent years and Silver told tales of his years which were filled with fighting. Diane mostly talked about all the different times she got into trouble with others or her family and other stupid stories.
"Hell, I even remember the day I found this lake. Was running at top speed until I saw something shiny in the distance. Nearly ducked into the water by accident, I tell ya."
It was a touching scene. All of them had already accepted Banza into their group, as if he was a regular friend. The only reason this was happening was because Banza engaged in conversation with Diane. Of course, truly he was a mere acquaintance, but Diane wanted to make him feel what friendship felt like.
Banza's eyes cast a long glance over the lake as Arti spoke. So they just talked and played with one another? Was that all friends needed to do to keep bring friends? He supposed that it wasn't a complex thing to keep once it was obtained. Sparring, on the other hand, was something he entirely understood. He was no Saiyan himself, but he was programmed to try and fit in amongst them to a degree, that included having some sort of fascination with combat. "I see, that seems pretty easy to understand." he'd remark, nodding to himself as he got the gist of what this group of friends was up to at least.
Diane then had something to say to him, causing Banza to look towards her now as she asked something fairly direct. A small exchange between her and Arti then went on that caused Banza to smile trying to see how the two interacted with one another, before finally answering. "No, I have not made any friends. Not consciously anyway. I've only been activated for about a year, and that time has been spent patrolling mostly." he'd pause for a moment staring towards the lake once more as he processed how he'd continue with this. "I suppose I don't understand what friends are, or how it works. I've had people I spent good time with, but it rarely lasts." he mused, thinking back to some of the people he interacted and got relatively along with. Perhaps those were his friends and they just didn't keep up because of his works, or people he could have been friends with but never got the chance to commit to.
Seeing the scenery change to everybody talking about themselves, Banza got to see just how much of life he was missing out on. All of the stories he was being told were fairly interesting and seemed like nice times. From an outside view, perhaps he was wasting his time? He was around for a year, but most of it was just spent flying and staring at the ground while scanning for lifeforms that could be in trouble. He didn't have accurate data to pull on, but he'd say that maybe a maximum of twenty hours had been spent in the presence of others in a positive light. The rest was all flying, scanning, shutting down, or combatting criminals. He didn't know if he should be disappointed in himself or glad that he was keeping to his orders.
Nonetheless, Banza sat there listening to each of the stories that all five of these new acquaintances told to him. All of them seemed about on track with their personalities that he had seen thus far, Diane's finisher seeming right on track with what he met her doing. It was nice to be included. "Thank you, everyone, for telling me about yourselves. I apologize that I don't really have any fun stories to tell about myself." Banza spoke contently, feeling quite pleased with the whole situation he was in. Staring at the sky, though, he'd stand up and stretch. Not that there was any purpose to stretching out his body, he was a machine.
"We've been out here a while. It was a pleasure meeting the lot of you and I'd like to meet up again sometime. Perhaps I'll even have stories to bring about myself next time." he'd remark, looking back over the lake one more time before turning to the group of Saiyans and Android once more. "I'd like to learn a thing or two about friendship someday. I know none of you really know me, but I hope I can fit the bill eventually." he'd smile, waiting to see if anybody had anything left to say before he just took off on them. WC: 628 TWC: 2,184
