Zabun
Name: Zabun
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Race: Majin
Homeworld: Earth
Starting Planet: Earth
Appearance:
Zabun is, for the most part, your typical majin. Red iris on black sclera, single long antenna coming from the top of his head, "vents" on his head, arms and chest. However, unlike most majin, Zabun's tough rubbery skin has taken on a more purple coloration due to his time spent in space. He stands at 6ft 1in tall and weighs around 225 pounds. His build is thick with well defined muscles. His noseless face is almost always stuck in a smug and mischievous grin. Zabun carries himself with an often arrogant demeanor, but closer observation shows hints of paranoia and suspicion.
Zabun often wears old black battle armor with no shoulder pads and brown straps. He wears the traditional majin baggy white pants and black belt, but with a red buckle. His forearms are adorned with black bracers with red trim, and his feet with black boots with the same red trim. Rings of varying design adorn his fingers, including his thumbs, and often decorates his antenna with gold and silver rings. It is also common for him to wear necklaces and earrings. Occasionally Zabun wears a golden hilted scimitar with a decorative scabbard on his belt, though it is solely a decorative item.
Backstory:
Zabun's only memory of his family are the words of wisdom his father shared with him. Never beg for anything. These words have guided his life and, at times, almost ended it. Growing up alone on the streets of a post-war East City as an orphan of war, he turned to theft to survive. The streets taught him a lot; how to steal, how to run a con, and, perhaps most important, how to fight. It was bad enough having no family or friends, but being a majin made things that much tougher. Soon, Zuban began to desire more. He began to look to the stars.
After years of fighting for his life in East City, the now teenaged Zabun finally found an escape; a cargo ship leaving for free space. He snuck onto the ship and hide among its cargo. Zabun managed to stay hidden until the ship was attacked by pirates. The pirates captured the crew and took the ship to their hidden base where they began to unload the ship's cargo. Zuban attempted to escape in an emergency pod, but was discovered. Once more he had to fight for his life. He was determined, but outnumbered, and he was beaten nearly to death.
Beat within inches of death, Zabun knew this was the end. Grenban, the pirate captain, approached Zabun, stretched out his hand and began charging a ki blast. That is when he told the young majin to beg for his life. Never beg for anything. With the words of his father echoing in his head, Zabun found the strength to stand, stared defiantly into the Grenban's eyes and refused to beg, saying he would rather die. This both shocked and impressed Grenban, and he offered him a place among his crew. With nowhere else to go, Zabun accepted.
Zabun grew into adulthood among the crew and they taught him how to use his ki and natural abilities in combat. Grenban groomed him for leadership and made him first mate. Their last attack on what they thought was a lone cargo ship turned into an ambushed by the Planet Trade Origination. The pirate crew fought for their lives as it was obvious the PTO forces had no intention of capturing them alive. An injured Grenban fled deeper into the ship and Zabun, who was also badly wounded, followed. Grenban lead Zabun to a hidden escape pod and it became clear that his intentions were to leave his crew to die.
Zabun confronted Grenban, insisting that he remain onboard and fight to the death his crew. The two of them began to fight and Zabun ended up being knocked backwards into the escape pod which then launched him into space. After hours of drifting through space, Zabun is eventually picked up by passing smuggler ship. The smuggler's leader, Pearus, allowed Zabun to join his crew on a trial bases after hearing his story. However, Zabun left out the details of his fight with Grenban hoping to spare his captain's reputation in death. After a few months, Pearus accepted Zabun as an official part of the crew, but this did not last long as the PTO struck once again. This time Zabun had no choice but to run.
After he parted ways with Pearus, things got tougher for Zabun. With little zeni and a ship that seemed to be little more than a pile of junk, not to mention his bad reputation for running away, it became difficult for him to find work. One day, while desperately trying to find a job, he was approached by none other than Pearus. Pearus came with a message for Zabun; Grenban is alive and seeking for revenge. Not wanting to face his old captain, there was only one thing Zabun could do. He had to hide somewhere where Grenban would never think to look. For the generous price of Zabun's ship and all the zeni he had, Pearus offered to help him erase his tracks. It was decided, Zabun was going back to Earth.

"I'll tell you what. I'll not only do the job in half the time, but I'll do it for half the price. So do we have a deal?" Zabun asked the two mysterious cloaked figures sitting across the table. This booth has become his favorite; Situated not in but near a dark corner of the smugglers den. He's gotten more jobs sitting here than anywhere else. Kurooll always kept it empty, just for him.
"What if we do give you the job?" one of the men replied, "Will you just jettison the cargo the moment you think the PTO is on your tail?" This wiped the confident grin off of Zabun's face. This cut him deep. He know what the man was getting at. The PTO was doing more than tailing us, he thought. He wanted to explain to them why he did what he did. How it help Pearus and the others get away. It's useless, They never listen, he told himself. All Zabun could do was sit back in his seat and bite his lip.
"We came here under the pretense that we would be meeting with someone worth our time. Instead we find you," said the other man.
Zabun picked up his glass, "Well, no one is keeping you here," he said as he looks away and begins gulp down his drink. The two men slide out of the seat without another word as Zabun chugs his entire drink. " Kurooll, bring me something that'll knock me out for a few days. And while you're at it, a few thousand zeni would be nice."
A pink spikerian, almost as big around as he is tall, made his way to the table and slammed down a bottle. "If I find any zeni, it's going straight to your tab," Kurooll said as he walked back to his spot behind the bar. Zabun never understood why Kurooll put up with him. Maybe he sees something in me, or maybe he's running some kinda long con. Gotta be the long con, he would always tell himself. Whatever the case, Zabun had no qualms taking advantage of his kindness; he didn't really get much elsewhere, after all.
"Here you are, sitting in the in the same sleazy bar as always, sitting in the same booth and killing yourself with the cheap booze. Old habits die hard, don't they," a familiar voice said. Zabun looks up to see Pearus, his former apel partner in crime, towering over him, "Can majins even drink themselves to death?"
"Pearus? Haven't seen you in this part of space for quite some time. What brings you here? Come back to scold me for what I did? Or maybe you want revenge for me losing you all that money," Zabun said, refilling his glass. His usual cocky grin has yet to return to his face. Not even the sight of an old friend could restore it.
Pearus sat down across from Zabun. A brenchian and a snakian stand at either entrance to the booth, as if guarding it. Pearus lets out a long sigh followed by, "What you did saved us. Who cares about a few slaves? New ones are born all the time. And, from what I'm told, you paid back the client yourself. No, I'm not looking for revenge... But someone is." He paused for a moment, waited for Zabun to give him his full attention, and continued, "You see, I was approached by an interesting fellow; a saiyan that wears his own severed tail like a belt."
"Grenban," Zabun interrupted with an expression of shock on his face. He couldn't believe that Grenban was still alive.
"Yeah, that's what he said his name was. I remembered it from the story you told me when we first found you floating in space. Thing is, he isn't dead like you said he was. He isn't dead, but he is angry. Very angry. Says you chickened out abandoned ship. Apparently he's looking for revenge, thinks I'll help him because you 'wronged' me," Pearus leans on the table in front of him to get a better look at Zabun's face. He can see the fear in Zabun's eyes. "Don't worry. I didn't believe him for a second. I know you better than that, and I don't intend to help him. That's why I came to warn you."
All Zabun could do was stare at glass. A hundred questions filled his mind all at once. Is he really still alive? How did he survive? Can I really trust Pearus? He sat in silence for a moment to let everything sink in. He could tell by the way Pearus was tapping his fingers on the table he was becoming impatient waiting on a response. How is someone suppose to respond to hearing that their dead mentor, who tried to leave them to die, is not only dead, but seeking revenge on them? Just like my luck.
Finally, after a few moments, Zabun looked up from his glass, "How do I know I can trust you? What do you stand to gain in return?"
"Because I owe you one, but I still need something in return," Pearus leaned in and interlocked his fingers in front of his face, "I'll need your ship, and whatever zeni you have. Your ship will be a distraction, we'll try to lore Grenban far away from here. The zeni, well, we'll say that's for my silence. Now, do you have anywhere you can hide? You need somewhere that he won't think to look."
Earth. It pained Zabun just to think about it but he knew it was his best option. Grenban knew how much he hated Earth. Zabun began to feel sick, remembering the way things were. Maybe it'll be different this time. What other choice do I have?
"Yeah," he said as he stared off into nowhere, "I know a place."
