The Western Lands had so far proven to be the most bland of Earth's many continents and countries in Piyano's opinion. The landscape was interesting in its own empty way, providing a sense of stillness and calm that would be hard to find anywhere else the visiting Namekian had been to so far on this planet but the far stretching desert and lack of life was difficult to ignore. Dust and sand blew continuously along the rough ground and the heat baked the soles of Piyano's soft boots. Had the monk not been a alien he likely would have collapsed from the overhead sun's fierce rays long ago. Even so however Piyano was sweating profusely from his traveling, exhaustion weighed heavily upon his shoulders, and thirst crawled from his gut through his throat, dry lips begging for even drops of sweet water.
Piyano had been traveling for hours, but as a stranger to the western lands he had no sense as to where he should go. The last town had promised him a location known as Pepper town had lay just to the south, barely seven hours away by hover-car. Piyano had spent the first four hours in flight, observing the landscape from on high as he soared over plateaus and rocky structures jutting from the sands like razors of deep stone reaching into the sky. The sun had proven to much however, and so Piyano had walked the last three hours to preserve energy and take advantage of any shade that was provided on his path by the regions looming archaeological structures. Now that seven hours had passed by Piyano was starting to get worried, the man had not brought water along with him. Spoiled by the ease of access to water provided by the Cold North and his home planet of Namek, Piyano had never even conceived the idea to bring the liquid along with him upon his travels.
Fighting the fatigue as best as he could Piyano pressed forward, one foot after the other through the desert sands. Forced to struggle for another hour of travel Piyano felt his hope restoring as a inspiring sight appeared in the distance. Tall towers reflecting sunlight off their glass windows grew out of the horizen and Piyano nearly cried out in glee as he took to the air as fast as his weariness would allow. Several minutes later Piyano was throwing back water from a town well, splashing and dumping the miracle liquid all over himself. Several inhabitants of Pepper Town watched the Namekian's crazed excitement, but none looked overly worried as they went about their lives. Heat stroke was a common occurrence in the desert and Piyano's actions were nothing most of them had not seen before.
One individual however escaped the crowds and determinedly made his way to Piyano's side, a look of worry and concern clouding his features. "Excuses me my man, but may I have a word with yourself?" the man said while Piyano was busy gulping water. Looking down at the human Piyano saw perhaps the strangest human he had ever seen before, something he felt was getting worse each week lately. The stranger was a round little man standing barely taller than five feet in height. Tanned brown of skin with a enormous drooping black mustache the stranger looked even more odd in his bright green robes and rope sandals. Twisting the corner of his fine mustache around his finger nervously the small man continued to speak, seemingly hoping to power through his trepidation. "Sir, I must ask for your help. My most favored pet Mittens has gone missing! He just loves the color green however, and your such a large green man. Surely he would return to me with your assistance." the stranger said.
piyano found the whole situation strange to be sure, perhaps it was his dehydration talking but the Namekian found himself agreeing to the search at this strangers request. Discovering the mans name was Kal-Hazari Piyano went on to question the short fellow about his beloved pet. In the end all Kal-Hazari would say however was that Mittens was rusty red in coloring with white feet and was just the cutest little creature Piyano had ever seen. The description wasn't much to go on, but Piyano could not get Kal-Hazari to say anything more about his pet, to the point that the Namekian was beginning to thing a language barrier was coming between the pair. After a hour of rest and conversation Piyano set off with Kal-Hazari at his side, the human suggested a location his pet might have gone too but refused to make the travels alone.
Told by his new partner of a thicket of swamp far to the east Piyano made to fly there. At the realization that Kal-Hazari could not fly himself Piyano grabbed the man by his arms and carried him through the skies. It took a full thirty minutes of flight for Kal-Hazari to stop his screams. The human locked his grip into Piyano's shoulders in a manner that only fear of death could inspire and Piyano found his decision to help the stranger swiftly revealing to have been a bad choice. Piyano had given his word however and so there was nothing to be done now other than see things through to the end.
After nearly a hours travel Piyano set his companion down at the edge of a looming swamp, sludgy water and shadows filled the environment with a ominous feel. Yet Kal-Hazari greeted the place happily, so much so as to kiss the muddy ground upon their arrival. Swinging his wide body side to side to straighten his robes Kal-Hazari walked right in, completely at home in the odd wilderness. Piyano was more apprehensive, his own experiences with swamps few and strained at best but the Namekian took courage from his partners lack of concern and stepped in behind him. The pair walked throughout the swamp for many minutes calling out to Mittens, no answer returning to them. The swamp was far from silent however, in his time on Earth Piyano had become accustomed to quiet nature or at least the sing-song chirp of birds. The swamp was a whole other beast, echo screeches and buzzing flooded the area with noise, a constant droning that could never be pinpointed and could never be escaped.
While they searched, checking trees and lifting branches or stones free of the mud Kal-Hazari told stories about his first meeting with Mittens. The man had 'saved' his pet from this odd and hostile environment, deciding to take his cute companion home for the rest of its natural days to be spent at Kal-Hazari's side. Piyano decided the story would be more charming if it wasn't being told in a swamp thick with humidity and mosquito's. "Which reminds me my man, you must keep your wits about you at all times in this swamp. Dangerous beasts roam freely and can take advantage of even the most skilled of men." Kal-Hazari said suddenly after the end of his story, quivering at the memory of some past monster. The humans warning did nothing to dispel Piyano's fears, in fact he now felt the pair should leave the swamp lest one of them be put at risk.
Raising his concerns to the human Kal-Hazari wouldn't hear any argument for leaving, instead the man snapped his fingers as a idea took him. "Come my man, we shall go too the tree I rescued Mittens from! if he is not there than he is not anywhere!" Kal-Hazari said running of in a direction. Piyano frowned at his partners back, they had been searching for hours at this point and the human was only now having this thought? A heavy sigh escaped the alien as he ran off after the short, round human. Ten minutes later Piyano found himself standing before a gigantic tree near the middle of the swamp, deep dirty waters surrounded the ancient piece of nature for some distance, but the trees branches extended out just to the waters edge on the opposed shore. Kal-Hazari stood before a particular branch, green flowers sprouted from the old wood and the human stood on his tippy toes to whisper into the flowers, tentatively balancing over the waters edge. "I'm here Mittens, please come home with me. please come home with Papa-Hazari." the human whispered to the flowers, and Piyano could hear true sadness in the humans voice.
Not knowing how else to help Piyano simply looked around the area for several minutes to no avail. Instead Piyano found himself spending his time watching a piece of old wood float along the dirty water of the pond. The wood moved slowly, but steadily towards Kal-Hazari. Suddenly the 'wood' exploded with motion, water erupting around it as a large brown alligator lunged for Kal-Hazari. Spooked by the sudden attack the human slipped in the mud and fell back, his stumble saved his life. The gators jaws smashed closed on empty air before continuing a second lunge for the human. By that time however Piyano was there, swiftly kicking upward as hard as he could Piyano felt his foot connect underneath the reptiles jaw. The creatures eyes seemed to bulge out of its head as it went careening through the sky past the tree line.
Piyano knew the lizard would land miles away, and he also knew that the pairs search was over. The swamp was to dangerous for a man like Kal-Hazari. Tears rimmed the humans eyes as Piyano convinced him to allow the Namekian to fly the human home to Pepper City, but in the end Kal-Hazari agreed. The flight back was silent with sorrow, Kal-Hazari didn't even scream in fear this time as the pair flew through the dusk air. Landing back in Pepper City's town market Piyano offered his condolences before shaking Kal-Hazari's hand. The human was a very odd little man, but at heart he was a good man and Piyano truly felt bad for failing him.
Turning to walk away a great scream escaped Kal-Hazari when Piyano's back was turned. Spinning in place the Namekian dropped into a stance for a fight, but no enemies could be spotted within his sight. Confusion lit Piyano's face as Kal-Hazari shushed him and slowly walked around Piyano's body. Feeling a slight tug on the back of his coat Kal-Hazair's voice began to laugh loudy behind him. "What is it? What is so funny?" Piyano asked as Kal-Hazari walked back around to his front.
"You have found my Mittens! Way to go my man!" Kal-Hazari said with his hands cupped before him. the human opened his palms to reveal a small red salamander flicking its tongue at Piyano, the little lizard had bright yellow eyes, and possessed white feet. "He must have gotten onto your back at some point and we never noticed my man!" Kal-Hazari said before a fit of laughter took him and set his wide belly shaking with mirth. Piyano however feel over hard into the dirt as the shock took him. Kal-Hazari had risked both their lives for a small lizard!?!?! Anger gripped Piyano, but even as the Namekian rose to his feet Kal-Hazari's laughter had calmed him. In the end Piyano could only smile at the true absurdity of it all.
